Overall Satisfaction with Cisco Meraki MX
We use Cisco Meraki MX84 in all of our 5 big retail stores located in Costa Rica. These devices are configured as a firewall, router, default gateway, threat protection, layer 7 content control in a specific vlan dedicated for Wifi Free service. It was not necessary to purchase additional devices and we could implement this solution working integrated to our existing core Cisco networking infrastructure. Our managers requested to bring Internet Wifi free to all our customers and employees in our retail stores, as a business strategy aligned to the digital transformation initiative. As a big company, the local telecom regulations in this country demand content control for Wifi Services offered to the customers, avoiding access to prohibited sites. Cisco Meraki MX was the better solution to address this requirement in terms of simplicity, deployment, scalability and stability.
- Content filtering is the best feature!!!
- Advanced Malware Protection (AMP)
- Traffic shaping is another great feature
- Monitoring the appliance and the network
- Maybe the cost of adquisition and licensing, but for big companies it should not be a problem
- It does not work with DMPVN, it's a negative aspect if you want to integrate with existing Cisco Routers using these protocol (our case)
- Your networking information is on the internet Cloud, if your license expires you can not continue managing the device
- Improved customer satifaction
- Increased visitors rating and DWELL time in our stores
- Quick response to the business requirements, for example live events using Facebook or Youtube without impacting core services in our stores
Cisco Meraki MX ease of deployment and management are the best features of Cisco Meraki MX. You don't need an expert or senior specialist, the implementation windows are reduced from days to hours or minutes even. It's really simple and intuitive, the web interface, documentation is very useful. All you need is to plug the device to the Internet and the configuration can be completed in just minutes or a few hours. Once implemented, the change process of configuration, management and monitoring from a single and centralized dashboard is a great option. This simplifies the job for IT professionals and administrators.
In our experience, Cisco Meraki MX perfectly can be integrated to your existing core Cisco networking infrastructure (router, switch, access point, wireless lan controllers, etc). You can have a mix of pure Cisco devices and Meraki. The only constraint is if you want to connect Cisco Meraki MX to another facility using Cisco routers, you have to use a traditional VPN site-to-site. You can not use DMVPN for example.
Cisco Meraki MX is much more simple to configure, deploy and manage. It's very intuitive and it has a lot of options as a firewall, also it has a SD WAN feature as a very important added value. The performance of the Cisco Meraki MX is very good and for these all reasons Meraki MX is better than FortiGate devices.
