Overall Satisfaction with Cisco NX-OS

We are using Cisco NX-OS for the operating system of our Nexus switches. We are using it for multiple purposes, one of them as a Data Center core switch, which is used to connect all our servers, storage, and systems. We also use it as a core switch for remote sites.
  • Easy to use
  • Running as separate control plane
  • Great performance on switches
  • No DHCP server available on it
  • No VTP server available on it
  • Enhance DC connectivity
  • Enable us to use FCOE
Cisco NX-OS switches are connecting to Sophos XG firewalls and to Cisco Catalyst 9500 switches, which are the building blocks for our network inside HQ and DC. This solution gives us the connectivity and speed needed for our applications and handles user needs with fast response in a secure way.
Product performance is very good--high speed, less latency, high amount of traffic, ability to connect with multi-gig ethernet connectors. It is easy to make link aggregation to enhance the speed and bandwidth of the devices. The high availability solution gives us the flexibility to have redundancy inside our network.
All security available inside the switching area is available in NX-OS with all the needed actions including port security, mac filtering, applying different kinds of access lists, route maps, and many other features that enhance the security of our network and keep our data center safe.
We studied the solutions from both vendors but we went for Cisco because it's powerful out of the box and has great support. It's also easy to find knowledge and support communities, and we already had a relationship with Cisco.
Due to the separation of features and the ability to enable each feature when you need it, using Cisco NX-OS decreases the processing on the switch and the memory use as well. The switches become more powerful and can handle much more traffic and sessions than normal switches. The ease of commands makes it simple to use.
