Overall Satisfaction with Cisco Routers

The Cisco routers are being used to route traffic from all of our buildings in our school district. They help to make it possible to have one internal network no matter what building you are located at. They help us with VLANs to separate devices on our network with routes between VLANs.

Compatibility is important. We use other Cisco products so buying Cisco routers fits right in. We currently use Meraki for switches, just another Cisco product. Cisco also integrates with Active Directory so user management and security are a lot easier for our school district. There are a lot of other compatible devices and software with Cisco that we want to start looking into.
There are many forms of security. With Cisco routers, you can turn on and off ports. If an intruder can gain access to a closet they can simply plugin. Shutting off ports makes things more secure. There is also user management. You can tie Cisco into Active Directory so that you know who is logging into the router and making changes vs everyone using a generic admin account and password.
All the cisco routers I have worked with are workhorses. They run with minimal maintenance. I have had power outages and the Cisco routers fire up every time. I have never had to replace a dead Cisco router. I have never even had to replace a power [supply]. The only time I have replaced one is when we upgrade to new hardware.
Cisco routers are great and are the industry standard. They have proven their ability to last and [continually] provide support for their devices. You can go into a lot of IT closets and see old Cisco switches and routers. Why? because they are workhorses and they last. Their compatibility [with] other systems and hardware makes them hard to beat.

Cisco routers are best used in medium to large businesses. They can be rather expensive, but necessary as a network grows. If you have a single building it might be more beneficial to buy a cheaper solution. If you plan on expanding it would be better to implement Cisco because there are so many other features your business can grow into.
