Overall Satisfaction with Cisco Secure Email

We have been using Cisco Secure Email for the whole organization for almost 10 years, it is the main email gateway for both Students and Staff members. approximately 15000 mailboxes are protected, both incoming and outgoing emails are checked for SPAM, viruses, malware, phishing attempts, and fraud emails. A special blacklist is also being used to stop certain unwanted emails especially password stealing scams.
  • Antispam
  • Phishing protection
  • Email Antivirus
  • DLP
  • Graymail prevention
  • Email blocking using header-from address.
  • Spam reporting to Cisco needs to be improved.
  • Clustering: active-active mode would be nice.
  • Creating filters from GIU.
  • Filters samples or database built-in the box would be super nice.
  • Email availability got better.
  • Less SPAM & less false positives.
  • Clean emails from viruses.
  • Lots of phishing attacks were stopped.

Do you think Cisco Secure Email Threat Defense delivers good value for the price?

Are you happy with Cisco Secure Email Threat Defense's feature set?

Yes

Did Cisco Secure Email Threat Defense live up to sales and marketing promises?

Yes

Did implementation of Cisco Secure Email Threat Defense go as expected?

Yes

Would you buy Cisco Secure Email Threat Defense again?

Yes

Cisco Secure email perfectly fits a basic email environment; we use Microsoft Exchange Server and Cisco ESA as our smarthost and the default MX record for email receiving. With this setup everything seems to be just fine. However, we encountered some technical issues when we used an external SMTP gateway "smtp2go.com" forcing email sending limits per user is not an easy task to do when you use an external gateway. If one user gets infected he/she can simply cause a temp ban from the 3rd party gateway for sending a huge number of bounced emails.

Resilience and Reliability

In my opinion, Resilience can offer many values in terms of security, it offers enhanced security and compliance which helps the overall reputation of your network and therefore increase the trust level of your clients.
in addition, financial benefits and cost reduction will occur.
Set response times and timelines, Implement strict access lists as needed. network segmentation especially in mixed environments like Education (we separate Staff, Student, Labs and WIFI users from each other) this increases the security level and minimize the damage in case of hacking incidents.
Implement data recovery and backup strategies for fast recovery after an attack.
Haven't found an alternative product with the same features or quality, I have been renewing Cisco Secure Email for over 8 years and i am overly satisfied with what is offered. I will definitely recommended it to my peers.
Implementation is straight forward and easy, advanced settings are super helpful especially scripting and custom filters, reporting is one of the coolest features to trace every step of sent/received emails. integration with internal email systems have never been easier, we are running Microsoft Exchange servers behind Cisco Secure Email with no problems.
I never had any outages for the past 8 years of using Cisco Secure Email, the system is always available, hardware configuration are designed for higher loads.
Integration was a straight forward process, we relay email to our Microsoft Exchange servers and we are also using a smart forwarded (3rd party to sent emails on on our behalf). SMTP authentication with IP restrictions have made this process more secure and trustworthy.
  • Preventing outgoing SPAM from infected accounts a workaround with filters and custom limits helped us secure our outgoing emails and increased our reputation

Using Cisco Secure Email

I have been using Cisco Secure Email for almost 10 years. It was named Ironport previously before even the acquiring of Cisco. We upgrade our old appliances to the latest and have been renewing our subscription for a long time. We actually didn't want to survey other competitors because we had no problems and the results were extremely satisfying. therefore I personally recommend this product.
