Cloud Insights helps you take proactive control of managing your storage
Overall Satisfaction with Cloud Insights
Our company uses Cloud Insights as a SaaS based storage management tool. Cloud Insights gives us visibility into our entire NetApp storage footprint from a single pane of glass. We can easily see our storage arrays that are located in our on-premises data centers and also our cloud-based NetApp Cloud Volumes as well. Cloud Insights gives us the ability to quickly spot capacity issues and trends and also look at the performance of the arrays across the environment to see if there are any hotspots so we can shift data around to relieve some pressure if necessary. Cloud Insights has become our go-to management tool for our NetApp storage environment.
- SaaS based--so there's nothing to install locally
- Easy to add all NetApp storage arrays and third-party storage vendors into Insights
- Detailed canned and custom reports
- It would be good to be able to send proactive email alerts about capacity or performance issues
- Not all third-party storage arrays can be added with a lot of detailed information
- Make it easier to create customized dashboards
- We are better at capacity management
- We have increased storage IO performance by spotting hotspots and making adjustments
- We have been able to reclaim storage more effectively
Cloud Insights is similar to HPE's InfoSight and Pure Storage's Pure1 SaaS-based storage management tools. InfoSight is probably the best tool out there, but we have been moving away from HPE storage. Cloud Insights has come a long way in the past few years and is now as good as Pure Storage's Pure1 platform, but neither of them is as good as InfoSight at correlating data and just the speed at which the site works, etc.

The most valuable feature of Cloud Insights for us is the trending information of our storage footprint to help with capacity management. Capacity management has always been painful for our company, which has very large data warehouses and is prone to acquiring new companies without any forewarning. Using the Cloud Insights storage trending reports, we are able to either reclaim stale data and storage or purchase additional storage to meet our company's needs.
The key metrics that we use in Cloud Insights are i/o performance per volume and array, data reduction (dedupe and compression), storage capacity (percent used vs. percent free), and growth trending. These metrics are invaluable for our company--especially because we can see our entire storage footprint from one central tool, Cloud Insights. We are able to be proactive rather than reactive to storage concerns.
