Overall Satisfaction with Cornerstone OnDemand

We are currently using Cornerstone OnDemand as the LMS for our whole organization. We recently implemented it and just went live on 11/30/15. It is our intention to have all learning related activities run through the LMS, to guarantee a positive end-user experience. We implemented Cornerstone to replace the SumTotal LMS we were previously using.
  • Cornerstone allowed us to create a custom Welcome Page, where we could bring in our branding, images and icons. This allowed us to have the same look and feel as other business applications.
  • The curriculum player functionality is very smooth. The % complete display helps users track their progress for a curriculum assignment - instead of just check marks for each module/course completed.
  • The in-tool reporting functionality provides us with current data, when it's needed. We previously had our learning data stored in a data warehouse, which refreshed nightly. We currently refresh in Cornerstone OnDemand every 6 hours, which allows us to report on items that happened earlier in the day.
  • Cornerstone OnDemand is highly configurable. As the system administrator, having the ability to drag and drop fields to change the dynamic of certain pages was so easy to use.
  • The feature converting email notifications to HTML automatically is perfect for someone who is not an HTML expert. You type it and they convert it. Very nice!
  • We would like the ability to change due dates right on the user's transcript for overdue training. We can change to a future date, but we can not add a date that is in the past. We need to go through the proxy enrollment steps, which takes longer.
  • It would be nice if Dynamic Proxys were editable. If we want to change a one-time training to a recurring training, a whole new proxy needs to be created.
  • We would like more options for the fields that are displayed in the org chart and user profile - currently we can select only between Division and Position.
  • We were able to implement with Cornerstone OnDemand in a very short timeline, which helped us achieve our overall business goal of becoming a stand-alone company.
  • At go-live we received a lot of positive feedback from our users on the end-user experience. The system was reported as very user-friendly and easy to navigate. Since our previous LMS was looked at as a pain point, so positive experience will bring people into the tool and encouraging on-time completions.
  • We have internal businesses looking to get their training in our Cornerstone OnDemand LMS, as they are happy with the experience they are having as a user. This will help us achieve our goal of having one system for all learning at our organization.
We chose Cornerstone over SumTotal LMS because of the flexibility they offered with their system. It was not the easiest migration, as a lot of choices that were made in SumTotal LMS were made based on the lack of options available, so migrated over courses and content was a challenge. One of the biggest things that drew us to Cornerstone OnDemand was the eagerness to have us as a client. We felt the level of customer service would far exceed what we had experienced with SumTotal LMS.
Cornerstone takes the time to understand your business needs and connects you with other clients that have similar organizations. They also offer 3-4 updates each year, continuing to improve their product.

Using Cornerstone OnDemand

For an LMS, it’s not horrible. They are making improvements with their customers support team, but it still has a long way to go.

Also, because it is a cloud solution, there is little flexibility with getting changes made in the system. Even items that are logical and would be a great improvement, it takes a long time, if ever to get these changes put in.

5 - We have a COE made up of 3 specialists. One LMS Manager and one IT Manager. We do have some support from other parts of the IT team, as well as the data warehouse and Workday teams.
  • Tracking compliance requirements
  • New hire orientation for our call centers
  • Tracking and registering leadership training enrollment
  • Reporting to regulators
  • Posting documents and have an acknowledgement embedded in the system to confirm completions.
  • Informal feedback. We’ve recently implemented this new module to link feedback to our core skills.
  • We plan to implement the Virtual Training component using WebEx.
  • Tracking sensitive acknowledgements with an electronic signature and having that completion feed back to an employee record in Workday.
  • Offering a training portal to our clients and suppliers to complete required compliance training.
  • Linking to our external learning providers. All learning in one place.
We recently renewed our contract for another 3 years.
ProsCons
Like to use
Technical support not required
Convenient
Feel confident using
Familiar
Inconsistent
  • Learner Home page was a great up date. It was easy to implement and it has a great interface for our learners.
  • Automatic assignments are fairly easy to launch.
  • Email notifications are not logical or intuitive.
  • We are not able to do some basic admin functions and have to go through CSODs support.
Yes, but I don't use it - The screen layout does not work well with banners on Learner Home, so we do not have it available.
Yes - SumTotal. Very negative experience with this vendor. Lack of flexibility and very poor service.
  • Product Features
  • Product Usability
  • Product Reputation
Product usability and ease of implementation. We needed to have the system up are running within 3 months and the ease of integration with Workday was the most important thing.
We have had the opportunity to go through the selection process again, as we just renewed our contract for another 3 years. There are many LMS providers in the learning space, and Cornerstone was able to connect our learning needs with our move to more informal feedback.

There are still pieces missing, like the ability to create online content in the tool, but we have found ways to work around this.

Cornerstone OnDemand Implementation

Dig deep on what your current processes are and how they match up to Cornerstone OnDemand functionality. It's not that the Cornerstone OnDemand is bad, it just the amount of work it requires you to do to get your current data to fit into their system.
  • Vendor implemented
  • Implemented in-house
Change management was a minor issue with the implementation - Communicate deadlines as you near the end. We were in the process of an overall company change, so the LMS change was a small piece of the overall project. Our updates were lost in some of the other communications.
  • Not understanding the challenges between the data we saw in our current LMS and how it would migrate over to Cornerston OnDemand. We required a lot of clean-up.
  • The turn around time of file loads was slower than we expected and needed. We felt like we had to escalate everything to get anyone's attention.

Cornerstone OnDemand Training

  • Online training
  • In-person training
  • Self-taught
I feel like they had a script and focused on items that we didn’t have intentions of using.
The online modules are pretty good. You can access them at any time, which we have done. You learn a lot in the beginning, but having the ability to retake short lessons when you are working on those items was very helpful.
No. Some of the functionality is not intuitive. So many features rely on other features. We made some mistakes, that required a lot of rework.

Configuring Cornerstone OnDemand

Some configuration settings were easy, others were not logical. A good example are the security roles. Any constraint needs to be added for each permission. If you miss one, the role doesn’t work as expected.
Do not launch your assignments without turning on your reminders. It was recommended that we wait to turn on notifications, and we launched all of our auto assignments. Then to turn on reminders for this training we had to relaunch all of those assignments. Also, certifications are very tricky. The difference between past due and expired is confusing.
Yes - we have customized the interface extensively - We had to engage with another company to get the page created. We ended up moving to the Learner Home and can’t use our custom page now.
Some - we have added small pieces of custom code - It was part of the page we are no longer using.

Cornerstone OnDemand Support

The GPS team is not quick to respond and typically responds after business hours. I get support when I escalate.
ProsCons
Kept well informed
Slow Resolution
Escalation required
Need to explain problems multiple times
Slow Initial Response
When out client success manager was out on leave the back up manager was very knowledgeable and responsive. She seemed to have a better grasp of the needs of our business.
