Overall Satisfaction with Couchbase

We use Couchbase in various delivery teams across. Teams have their own deployments, managed independently.
  • Full-Text Search.
  • Simple syntax.
  • Shallow learning path.
  • New features in supposedly stable releases commonly have major issues.
  • The engineers Couchbase send out to help us use their products could be more technical.
  • The Couchbase whitepaper is far from intuitive as to what is going on under the hood.
  • We've spent a lot of time trying to understand how to use Couchbase for issues it was not initially intended for. It has cost us a lot in time.
Couchbase is scalable, but the underlying model is far from intuitive, making designing scalable queries touch.
It can be hard to index complex queries appropriately without falling back to full-text search.
We've benefited from the lack of schemas. Our data models change all the time.
We have not used this feature.
We selected Couchbase because it was recommended internally. We've had more success with Cassandra in the past, and with its simpler, more intuitive data model. Full text search makes us sometimes favour Couchbase though.
Couchbase is a great solution where you don't know your access patterns and are likely to need to fall back to full-text search. For simple hash-based lookup, simpler solutions exist.
