Overall Satisfaction with DB2

We use DB2 to run our entire SAP Landscape
  • Minimal administration needed compared to other enterprise database products in the market
  • Performance has been exceptional and improved with every version
  • The reliability of the DB2 engine is probably it's biggest asset
  • The Oracle compatibility feature stopped short of providing a listener type connection so applications could have been agnostic to what database it was running.
  • Using the SAP / DB2 licensing model, we saved over a million in licensing fees over the competitor.
In my experience we have never had any kind of issues with scaling out a solution. The DB2 parameters are easy to modify to make use of additional Memory.
Since we first installed DB2 in 2008, the performance has just improved from version to version.
This is one of its best features as a DBA. The thing just runs! DBA support calls are pretty much non-existent compared to our previous database vendor.
Oracle and we moved because of the cost but a huge bonus due to performance and reliability.
I would highly recommend it for SAP and Analytical workloads.
