Overall Satisfaction with DB2

It is used as the database for our ERP system that is utilized by the entire company. It addresses our need for stability and performance from our main source of data.
  • It is stable
  • It runs well without active DBA management
  • It performs well when we need it to
  • Does not have the most sophisticated features
  • At its core it utilizes IMB "green screen" interface
  • We do not have downtime related to database issues
It does what we need to do and is able to handle workloads both large and small.
It does what we ask of it without needing manual intervention or tweaking from a traditional DBA.
I am not aware of it ever crashing.
I have not been a part of other database evaluations because this does what we need it do for our ERP system. However I have worked with other databases and them seem to require much more "hands on" assistance than DB2 does.
It is a workhorse that keeps running and running well without manual intervention and works well with the JD Edwards ERP system. If you want to not think about your database this is a great option.
