Overall Satisfaction with Dell PowerEdge R

We deploy our Dell PowerEdge servers company wide. They support all aspects of the company; especially as virtualization constantly evolves bringing in newer opportunities. It addresses many issues but the most valuable is demoing different software products or product testing before it is deployed throughout the company. It acts as a lab environment as well as supporting production infrastructure.
  • Supports ESXi extremely well.
  • Easy to find firmware updates.
  • Ease of use and reliability.
  • IDSDM modules seem to have a high failure rate.
  • Postive ROI - our servers save us money every day in terms of ease of management, power, and flexibility.
They perform essentially the same job duties, and while the HPE Blades offer much stronger density and options for expansion, the overall cost of the chassis was a major factor. We also found firmware and general support to be easier and better with Dell. I am fine using either product.
Support is top notch. As long as you have a valid support contract you will be able to speak to someone almost immediately and they will work with you to resolve your issue. Most of the time it's because there is a failed piece of hardware and it is dispatched fairly quickly.
It's an amazing piece of gear, however you need industry experience or training to know where you need to go to accomplish your goals. It is more so a platform for us and not something we are in every day.

Do you think Dell PowerEdge R delivers good value for the price?

Yes

Are you happy with Dell PowerEdge R's feature set?

Yes

Did Dell PowerEdge R live up to sales and marketing promises?

Yes

Did implementation of Dell PowerEdge R go as expected?

Yes

Would you buy Dell PowerEdge R again?

Yes

Anytime you need to roll out a production server for a one-to-one or many-to-one scenario it is appropriate. The only time I can think a PowerEdge deployment doesn't make sense is for a single workstation user that does not require the resources a typical configuration would offer.
