Overall Satisfaction with Deputy

We use Deputy to roster our casual workforce and record their working hours for payroll. Deputy works well for rostering and is very useful for the staff because their roster transfers directly to their smart phone calendar. However, the biggest problem we have with Deputy is that our Award give paid breaks to casuals and unpaid breaks to permanents. Deputy can't switch paid or unpaid breaks based on permanent or casual so our casuals do not record their breaks and the permanents do. Unfortunately, Deputy assumes that the casuals have not had a break and tries to pay them penalty rates for missing a break. This makes payroll very difficult to undo the penalties that Deputy includes.

Pros

  • Sending out rosters.
  • Recording times worked.
  • Transferring shifts directly to smart phones.
  • Allowing quick broadcast of messages to the whole company.
  • Scheduling future weeks based on previous weeks.

Cons

  • Deputy needs to allow for paid AND unpaid breaks for casuals and permanents.
  • Deputy can be slow to load and update rosters sometimes when many companies are rostering shifts.
  • Deputy is relatively expensive on a per employee basis.
  • Faster rostering.
  • Move flexibility in rostering.
  • Easier for staff to accept or decline rosters.
Deputy was better for sending and changing rosters and for staff to save to calender
