Overall Satisfaction with DigitalPersona Altus
We started using DigitalPersona for sign off of medical charts in our procedure center. This is a fast paced environment where nurses are regularly asked to enter a password each time they update the patient's record. After success in this use case we started rolling the product out for other users and departments slowly. It helps with the myriad of logins that users have to manage and speeds up their time accessing resources.
Pros
- Integration with active directory credentials works very well and requires next to no user input.
- Works very well with every type of fingerprint reader we have tested with, authentication is fast and accurate.
- "Kiosk" mode allows different users to authenticate with applications within a shared windows logon session. This addresses several unique needs with shared terminals, particularly in a medical environment.
Cons
- The move over to the Altus version of the product (new versions) has had more random issues than I have seen in the past.
- Changing stored logins can be confusing to users when a password change is required.
- The software is not always compatible with new applications right away (new Windows versions or web browsers) and sometimes takes 6+ months to catch up.
- Less IT staff time resetting forgotten user passwords.
- Faster access to resources saves staff time.
- Windows Biometric Framework and Eikon
Altus is the only product we tested that was simple for users and centralized management and credentials. Other authentication products seem to either support all applications well on one system or one application well across the network. Altus has worked with most applications we have tried to use it with.
Windows, Various website logins (on IE9-11), Medical record software, Quickbooks, etc...
