Overall Satisfaction with Duo Security
Duo has been implemented for years at my university. It was smoothly rolled out to 7,000 staff and faculty and now to our countless students. The non-profit I volunteer for recently switched to Office365 for email, and I was able to use Duo instead of MS's own "Authenticator". It's nice to be able to reuse the same 2FA apps across multiple uses and organizations.
- Two factor authentication is simplified with Duo.
- Securing accounts is paramount.
- It would be nice to have a Windows companion app.
- More consistent push notifications on older devices.
- Able to change default notification sound.
- Secured thousands of accounts.
- Hard to defeat the security.
- Should retire SMS.
2FA is proven to dramatically reduce the possibility of breaches. In cases where a user declines a push notification, Duo even asks if it was a mistake or if it was not the user that initiated the push (attempted breach). Yes, users can still be tired from reporting false pushes and eventually approve an attack, but clearly, the use of Duo/2FA dramatically decreases the attack surface.
I do not have experience with support from Cisco on Duo, however, Cisco's technical support is worldwide, and top-notch. I would assume the same support is available to Duo integrators.
Yubico also works with Duo, however, the setup and use of Yubikey's tend to be for advanced users. The lay audience will never be able to successfully deploy the use of these keys. Duo mobile apps simplify life with the bypass code creation or via push notifications. Google Authenticator is sufficient, however, Google is known to have Orwellian amounts of information about me already versus Cisco is known for "security".
