Overall Satisfaction with Edmodo
Many teachers at our school use or have used Edmodo as a method for organizing information and maintaining communication for and with students. Recently, students began utilizing Edmodo as a communication tool to form groups and send out notifications for school and even social events. Teachers have also used Edmodo for collaboration and professional development purposes.
- Edmodo is a great tool for communication. You can easily send out alerts and assignments to all users.
- Edmodo is also great for forming groups outside of the classroom. If you have a study group, you can post comments and materials for easy access.
- Edmodo also has a calendar option that quickly organizes upcoming assignments.
- Edmodo is a stand-alone app - meaning you have to use other resources for posts or collaborative folders to share information and documents.
- Edmodo also has no back-channel, which for some is a good thing, but in districts that use filters for language, it is good to have students be able to communicate through something other than a public forum.
- Student's have to have a code and remember passwords to get into classes, and teachers can change passwords. While this sounds great, kids often forget their passwords and use the teacher as a crutch, which means you spend a LOT of time changing passwords!
- Increased Professional Development Collaboration
- Increased Student Responsibility
- Increased Student Participation
- Google Education
In my opinion, there are not many educational technological tools that stack up against Google for Education. I actually have recently migrated to Google Classroom from Edmodo. I find Edmodo to be a valuable tool, but since our district has migrated almost primarily over to Google, we use that app instead.
Using Edmodo
There are a few teachers who still use Edmodo in our district, but about 600 students follow different classes to gather information for upcoming events.
