Overall Satisfaction with EMS Software

EMS is an integral part of the management of space on both the Allendale campus and our downtown Grand Rapids campus. It is used to manage equipment inventory, event specifics, internal record-keeping, and much more.
  • Data collection and ability to access the data quickly
  • EMS does an excellent job of responding to and considering feedback as they continue to make their product better and better
  • The ability to use 7PointOps and Social Tables with EMS have been an invaluable to our operations
  • We have connectivity issues at times. I am not certain this is due to hardware on our end or software issues.
  • Regional customer groups are a good idea for us to take part in. This would allow us access to best practices of others
  • EMS helps me to articulate space usage with data to back it up.
EMS is the only reservation software I've ever used.
We are able to use EMS for multiple room types successfully. It is also used by our Conference and Event Planning, Records and Registration and Athletics and Recreation departments.
I am able to make the software work for any number of scenarios.
EMS can be utilized in many different ways by multiple partners on campus. It’s easy for me to illustrate this to our campus partners and training is not difficult.

Using EMS Software

Administrative, conference services, classroom management, conference room management, and so on
1 - As far as the application is concerned, I am able to facilitate the installation of EMS at individual work stations, as well as training for individuals as the need arises. As far as managing the software, we have one IT person that manages the updates as they come along.

Skills necessary on the IT side are efficient management / implementation of software updates, computer knowledge and application knowledge.

From the users' perspective, I would think that efficiency, clear communication along with competently delivered training would be key.
  • Room reservation and use management for the majority of campus.

  • To reserve lobby tables in our student union
  • To reserve outdoor fields and other reserve-able spaces on campus
  • Banner tie in would be lovely

GVSU's Conference and Event Planning has been using EMS since 1997. They primarily used it for off-campus client room rentals and then as the product evolved our campus use grew. Having one system-of-record for all of GVSU is powerful in that there is one place for campus partners (Facilities Services, Police Department, etc.) to go for event information.
I was not a part of the evaluation process.

No - To have to pay for support of a product that we pay for annually seems very odd and unnecessary to me.
Yes - It was a long time ago. Problem was solved with the next software update.
