Overall Satisfaction with Google Classroom

Google Classroom is being used for grades 4-8 at my school. Primarily homework assignments are given through Google Classroom. Grades 4-5 use it for reading journals. Grades 6-8 use it for WebQuests.
As the school librarian and permanent substitute, I use Google Classroom when I am substituting in the upper school. Frequently, it is used for substitutes because the learning outcomes and expectations are made clear with this platform.
  • Ease of use (children are able to use it).
  • Allows teacher to closely monitor students.
  • Eliminates the need to bring home notebooks or books.
  • Google Classroom does not integrate the calendar.
  • No automatically graded quizzes or tests.
  • Google Classroom has made grading and assigning projects easier for teachers at my school.
We have used Quizlet. It functions better for for automatic assessment. Google Classroom is better used for longer, in-depth assignments.
Google Classroom is appropriate for students who are proficient at using desktops and typing. Younger children should not use Google Classroom as they should be learning to write with a paper and pencil.
Parents who are weary of the Internet and electronics devices may not allow children to use it.

Using Google Classroom

7 - Teachers
2 - Our technology coordinator and IT support help to ensure our Chromebooks are working and our WiFi is working, as well. Our technology coordinator helps to set the students up on Google Classroom.
  • Students use it for WebQuests.
  • Students use it for reading responses.
  • Students use it to know what their homework assignments are.
  • Google Classroom allows for absent students to keep up with work
  • Google Classroom helps our school keep learning going even during snow days.
  • Google Classroom keeps parents informed on what is going on in the classroom.
  • Google Classroom could be integrated into the younger grades (2 and 3).
  • Google Classroom could be uses to keep writing portfolios.
More and more teachers are adopting Google Classroom into their curriculum at our school. I foresee it expanding throughout the school.
