Overall Satisfaction with Google Forms

I work at a large primary school in West London and we use Google Forms almost every day. The teachers and administration staff use Google Forms to send out surveys or consent forms to parents. Teachers also use Google Forms to test the knowledge of students in class. The older students are even experienced in creating their own surveys or quizzes as part of their Computing lessons. It has made data collection so much easier, as Google Forms is quick to create and fast to analyze in real-time.
  • Live results: When a user completes the form the results are added instantly.
  • Easy to create: Google Forms has a simple interface that allows for a wide range of question types. Google will even try to guess the question type based on the question (but this can be overridden).
  • Answers export to Google Sheets: It is easy to have each response to your form add a row to a Google Sheet, allowing for further analysis or processing.
  • Ability to automatically collect email addresses within a domain: If you have a form that has been shared with users in your domain, you can set it to automatically collect the users' email addresses without them needing to type it in. Makes checking whether all students have completed the form easy.
  • Audio responses: As of now, there is no way to receive an audio response within Google Forms.
  • File upload only available for logged-in users. It is impossible to set up a Form that allows for file upload if the completing users do not have their own Google account.
  • Difficult to print results: It is very difficult to print the results of a survey and have the results make appropriate page breaks to look correct on paper.
  • Only receive results on completion: The results are only sent through once the user completes the whole form. This means that if a user completes the form but forgets to press submit then all their data is lost.
  • Saves huge amounts of money on data collection just by saving paper alone.
  • Teachers able to quickly poll students for ideas saves on time and paper.
  • Allows for quick analysis of parent or student feedback which saves time and money on further professional analysis.
Google Forms is great because it is free and easy to use. Formative has great features because it is able to give live feedback of responses and it has multiple question types but it is also expensive to subscribe to. Google Forms is very powerful because, in addition to the core features, you also benefit from community-made add-ons that enhance Forms features. Some of these features allow for options such as limiting the number of times each option can be submitted or populating questions from a column in a Google Sheet. Kahoot is great for quizzes or games but doesn't have the power or ease of editing that Google Forms how.

Did implementation of Google Forms go as expected?

Would you buy Google Forms again?

Yes

Google Forms is a fantastic free tool that is incredibly versatile and able to be used in a wide variety of contexts. It could be improved by offering more features such as additional question types, and the option to get live data feedback, but overall it is a fantastic product. It has saved so much time and money over the past few years and we intend to continue using it.
Being a free product, there is no immediate phone or email support available. That said, there is myriad support available on online forums and the product itself is also very easy to use and self-explanatory. I have rarely had any problems fixing any problems with Google Forms and in the few times that I have done, a quick Google search is usually enough to solve my query.
Appropriate Scenarios
  • Data collection
  • Formative assessment
  • Survey/questionnaire
  • File uploads (Can be limited to particular sizes or file types).

Inappropriate Scenarios
  • Lessons where you need instant feedback to answers rather than waiting for the whole form to be completed.
  • File Uploads where not all of the users have Google accounts.
