Overall Satisfaction with IBM API Connect

We are using IBM API Connect across our organization--by multiple teams--as an enterprise platform. IBM API Connect helps us with services/API discovery using the developer portal console. It is used to expose enterprise APIs to third-party vendors and manage their access. We also use it within organization to discover and re-use/share services with other departments.
  • Great and unmatched consumer management features in developer portal; support for setting up consumer teams with multiple developers.
  • Out-of-box support for multiple authentication security mechanisms for API, like OAUTH, MTLS, JWK, etc.
  • Extensive workflow and lifecycle approval customization were best among peers.
  • DataPower, as runtime engine is very robust and high performing.
  • Improve product documentation.
  • Should improve implementation support for enterprise use cases--like support for private cluster implementation.
  • More stable and slow releases for enterprise. Need to have easier migration and upgrade options--especially for customers using old versions like v5.
  • IBM API Connect had a positive impact on our business by helping to set up collaboration with our third-party vendors and manage the API effectively. This, in turn, helped us to grow our vendor ecosystem.
  • Easy implementation and a great range of customization options helped us to set up API store. This greatly helped our strategic initiative and reduced time to market on development.
  • Easy, self-service developer portal had helped our teams in reusing/sharing one department API/service with other. And consumer management and usage analytics are of very great value in understanding key insights/metrics.
IBM API Connect is very mature and offers lot of flexibility for enterprise requirements, highlighted in the following key areas:
  1. Consumer management
  2. Workflow on product lifecycle
  3. Intuitive UI-based development options
  4. Superior runtime with DataPower
  5. Easier code migration with single YAML deployment
  6. Rich analytics options like built-in dashboards
  7. Product architecture is flexible to accommodate hybrid or multi cloud designs easily
Above all, IBM API Connect has great execution capability. The product road map, especially with recent versions to adopt latest technologies and patterns, makes it a future-proof choice. Also IBM has a great ecosystem of supporting software like Cloud Pak, OpenShift, and RHEL.
