Overall Satisfaction with IBM Cloud for VMware Solutions

We were looking to migrate our VMware workloads into a hosted VMware solution. While the pricing is very competitive, the support is lacking or basically nonexistent. The product is also extremely slow and the interface lacks quite a bit. The vCloud director interface is standard, but it's so slow to respond that it's almost unusable at times, and the disks are so slow its not suitable for any real workloads. We upgraded to advanced support but they were not really any help--just responded a bit faster (two days vs. a week).

  • IBM employees and salespeople are not aware of features or offerings
  • Does not integrate the Zerto, only Veeam and has limited options for data migration
  • We wasted three months and countless hours, but it did not cost much with IBM
We ultimately chose another provider with better support, but the product offering is good, it just lacks support and other offerings.
We attempted to engage with IBM experts and were quoted a price 10 times the monthly cost of doing it ourselves, and when we asked for the standard product they offered, they told us that they did not provide it and we can just do it ourselves, which is ultimately what we did. The solutions engineers were not aware of the product offerings or how to use them, and the documentation was out of date.
We ended up choosing iland instead of IBM Cloud for VMware Solutions primarily because of support and performance. IBM's cloud is not on par with others. It's slower and out of date on some aspects, and the support is just not responsive or available.

The integration and self service portal look nice but they don't really work, and when they do the support was not able to correct the issues without getting Veeam involved. In the end, we were able to get it working but cannot do file-level restores or anything other then entire machine backups, and installing the agent would cost a lot more and require an additional server.
Low cost, slower workloads, someone who doesn't need support or mission-critical applications.
