Overall Satisfaction with IBM Cloud Databases
We are using a RethinkDB hosted solution. Compose gives us a reliable, scalable and redundant database, with no ops needed.
- Good responsiveness from support.
- Up to date on best practices (an extra proxy server in my case, default user restrictions). The DB's web UI is easily launchable.
- Backups.
- A pricing plan for a simple single instance you can use for testing and QA.
- Quick time to market.
- Mlab
UI/UX was much better with ibm compose.

Compose looked good and felt good. The regular newsletters were great to receive as they instilled confidence in the compose's knowledge and was good knowledge to share. So confidence in the composes domain knowledge was a very important factor.
Evaluating IBM Cloud Databases and Competitors
Yes -
Self hosting of our database on Amazon web services. Scaling out to more servers and more memory was much faster and simpler with compose.
Even though we had invested in our own setup, I felt a lot more safe with delegating the work and responsibility to compose.
Back ups where easily timed and there was an added bonus of a proxy server that helped.
Personally I am a fan of saas products that require the least amount of develops and reliability on in house development.
So I would still go for the product with the least amount of friction and most amount of reliability.
