Overall Satisfaction with IBM Power Systems

The Power8 Servers are being used by multiple applications across the whole organization. The servers provide scalability, reliability and security for our critical applications at Mohawk. The problems that are addressed are mainly related to providing optimal performance for our critical applications that support our customers of our OLTP applications.
  • Performance
  • Flexibility
  • Security
  • Firmware upgrades can be difficult when running multiple LPARs because of scheduling.
  • The cost for adding additional resources can be challenging.
  • The power consumption could be reduced to save on energy costs.
  • Performance improvement from P7 to P8 has been very positive
  • The ability to run IBMi LPARs along with AIX has helped to reduce our footprint in the datacenter
  • Cooling continues to be an issue as we strive to find ways to reduce power consumption and energy costs.
When deciding on servers to run our critical applications IBM Power systems are always at the top of our list. The tradition of reliability, performance and security is unmatched in the industry. We have a large VMware environment running x86 servers but they mainly support windows based applications like exchange.
IBM Power8 servers are well suited for applications that incur heavy processing and transactions. They are very well suited to run Oracle RAC clusters. We have multiple Oracle clusters running on Power 8 and they run very efficiently with minimal issues. We've been very pleased with the performance as have the users of the applications.
