Overall Satisfaction with IBM POWER9 Servers

IBM Power Servers are a part of our core offering as an MSP. We leverage this tool for customer workloads and offer additional services on this platform. The Power9 platform is extremely secure, very powerful, and great scalability. I certainly recommend Power9 servers to organizations to run their Linux and IBM-centric work loads.
  • They are very secure and do not have many of the security issues as other platforms
  • They are very powerful and efficient, good for processing large work loads.
  • They are highly scalable and can be easily clustered.
  • I believe that IBM should continue to look for ways to find additional work loads to run on the Power platform for larger adoption.
  • IBM should invest heavily in making Power Servers easier to learn/use for new adoption.
  • IBM should make the servers easier to license/manage for the MSP model
  • The TCO of a Power Server is low considering the efficiency of the device, as it takes us less space in the datacenter (per compute power) and is a very stable platform (low percent of HW failure).
  • These are also very secure, so it reduces the cost to secure/maintain.
In high value work load environments there is no reason to go with the other options as they cost savings is minimum, but raises costs or risks.
Larger Linux environments run much better on Power than X86.
