Overall Satisfaction with IBM Storwize V7000

IBM Storwize V7000 is a simple box that can help you deliver SAN block storage to your servers. It is mainly used in virtualized environments. It has the capability of providing replication to a secondary site, by doing async or sync replicas of your data. Because it supports different disk technologies under one pool, you can reduce overall costs, maintaining fare performance.
  • Easy to use.
  • Great GUI.
  • Easy Tier capability.
  • Only block storage box.
  • Many incidents over a few years.
  • If easy tier not planned well, the performance might be impacted.
  • Storage admin reduction of costs.
  • Not an expensive solution.
  • Maintain low operative costs.
IBM Storwize V7000 is well suited for organizations with midsized workloads. You can have all your virtualized and physical servers stored in only one solution. You can configure some quality of service on some volumes so you are able to deliver the performance to specific workloads and protecting others. It is the entry point for storage appliances, and from there you can take to the next level: DR Site.
it is said that it is easy to scale to cloud on storage boxes. However, you have to take into consideration how latency affects your data. How your cloud provider is going to charge to input data, to take out data and to store your data. It is something you need to take into consideration. We weren't able to try this feature due to all these questions.
IBM Storwize V7000 stacked up against its competitor's thanks to costs, usage, and growth.
  1. You can combine different Storwize family members to virtualize and to replicate.
  2. You can use its virtualization capability to virtualize your existing storage boxes until their end of use. After that it is very easy to migrate all data to V7000 natively.
Some of the scenarios where IBM Storwize V7000 is well suited are:
  • Virtualized environments
  • Disaster recovery sites
  • All bock storage scenarios
  • Low rack footprint

Some of the scenarios where IBM Storwize V7000 is less appropriate are:
  • One solution for both file access and block access
  • High-performance scenarios
  • A hybrid solution to scale to cloud
