Overall Satisfaction with Cisco Jabber

Jabber is being used throughout our entire organization. It is a great tool to help facilitate communication between individuals, departments, etc. While E-mail is fast, Jabber allows you to go even faster by seeing that someone is online, instantly chat with them, etc. It also allows you to connect to your phones, so you simply find your contact, and press call. No more remembering numbers. It even allows you to share screenshots and files with one another.
  • Instant communication
  • Checking user availability
  • Easier phone lookup for internal contacts
  • Chat history is not stored on a server - need a separate product
  • Unable to create a permanent group area for users to contribute to
  • Sometimes sharing screenshots between users doesn't always work
  • Positive - Information is passed between people instantly which helps the entire organization be more efficient
  • Negative - Had to purchase a separate product to retain chat lots
  • Positive - Users can check if people are available to talk, rather than guessing and waiting
Jabber is great for INTERNAL communication. Talking within the organization to users, finding their number, and things along those lines. Slack is more based on the user and doesn't care if you are in the organization or across the world. I guess it all depends on how you want to use your communication tool. If you want employees only talking to one another, then Jabber is great. If you collaborate with other organizations outside of yours then you may want to look at Slack.
We came from an environment where there was no instant messenger. Jabber is great compared to having nothing in place for your organization, however, you may want to compare the features between this and another program such as Slack. Jabber is mostly used for Internal communication whereas Slack is geared towards users, and can add anyone in the world to it. However what Jabber is meant for is communication and it does that well.
