Overall Satisfaction with Jama Connect
Jama Connect is used across the whole organization for the purposes of requirements management and traceability. Different parts of the organization utilize Jama Connect more heavily or less heavily based on their individual needs. There is also some verification and validation testing that is managed and tracked through the Jama Connect software, but this is much more limited.
Pros
- Collaboration on requirement development.
- Establishing traceability between elements.
- Review and approval functions of individual elements.
Cons
- The user interface can be cumbersome and difficult to perform certain tasks efficiently. In particular, mass editing of items is not easy to do--items generally need to be handled on an individual basis.
- Although individual needs can vary widely, some basic expected functionality is hidden or altogether unavailable.
- Large projects become very difficult to manage.
Do you think Jama Connect delivers good value for the price?
Not sure
Are you happy with Jama Connect's feature set?
Yes
Did Jama Connect live up to sales and marketing promises?
I wasn't involved with the selection/purchase process
Did implementation of Jama Connect go as expected?
I wasn't involved with the implementation phase
Would you buy Jama Connect again?
Yes
- Jama Connect has eliminated some basic redundant work and made requirements management and traceability much easier to maintain. This saves time on projects.
- Collaboration features have made it easier for teams to work on content without having to meet together to make progress.
- The user interface is not completely intuitive and requires some learning curve for even basic use.
Jama Connect has provided the organization with a tool to perform requirements management and traceability, which are elements that the organization expected the tool to provide. This has been a great benefit to project teams, but there are other elements of the tool that we have not been able to take advantage of such as risk management modules, test case management, or validation of the tool to be able to use content directly as a controlled record. The costs and overhead associated with implementing this functionality have made the organization unable to realize these benefits to date.
My personal experience in other tools like Jama Connect is rather limited, so the main comparison that I have is between Jama Connect and not having a tool for requirements management and traceability. Compared to the use of Microsoft Office (e.g., Word and Excel) to manage requirements and design traceability, Jama Connect is wonderful. There is a great deal of efficiency and elimination of redundancy through the use of Jama Connect as opposed to non-specific documentation tools.
- Microsoft 365 (formerly Office 365)
Jama Connect, being a tool that is specifically designed for requirements management and design traceability, provides many benefits over a non-specialized productivity tool such as Microsoft 365. The revision history, collaboration functions, and tool features are much more applicable to the specific needs of requirements management and design traceability than the generic Microsoft 365 package.
