Using PDF documents in support of adult training classes
Overall Satisfaction with Kofax Power PDF (formerly Nuance)
I am using Kofax to create PDF documents as training support materials. This includes capturing web documents as PDFs, as well as editing, recombining, and reformatting into new PDF files existing documents in many file types (txt, doc, xls, ppt, etc.). PDF is a widely accepted file type suitable for virtually all our trainees and clients.
Pros
- Combining materials from several files into a single PDF document.
- Deleting unwanted pages from a PDF to create a new, shorter PDF extract.
- Searching lengthy PDF documents to find key words.
- Converting PDF to txt or doc format.
Cons
- Wish Kofax could "rewrite" a PDF document into a new PDF document with larger font size.
- Kofax has saved me many hours of work because it is the single program I need go to for any and all my needs in working with PDF files. The program works quickly for me, even when I need to figure out how to do things I've never done before.
I have found Kofax easy to use for all my needs. The built-in functions work intuitively and are well supported by HELP file information. For anything Kofax is able to do, and which I have needed it to do, I have figured out how to do it quickly and easily.
I have used a couple other products for working with PDF files. None of them has included as much functionality, or has been as easy to use, as Kofax. Once I discovered Nuance (now Kofax) many years ago, I stopped using any other similar software. Kofax has become a staple that I install on all the PCs I work with.

The Kofax features I use the most are the ones that allow me to convert files among different file types, the functions for combining files, and functions for adding and deleting pages to a PDF document. I commonly use these functions to extract and recombine the most useful portions of existing documents to create new documents as supplementary materials for adult training classes.
