Overall Satisfaction with Kofax Power PDF (formerly Nuance)

As a law firm we use Power PDF to view PDFs, comment, highlight, or edit documents, create PDFs by combining documents into one, sometimes we redact information for privacy reasons.
  • View PDFs.
  • Combining PDFs and documents into a single PDF.
  • Edit PDFs - ability to type directly into most PDF, but not all.
  • Doc Assembly view - let's use see thumbnails of all the pages in a PDF.
  • Shutdown -slow to shutdown and does not always shutdown properly.
  • Slow to open.
  • Add an ability to draw on PDF's with touch screen via hand or stylus.
  • Scanning - I have had issues using Power PDF to scan documents.
  • Cost Saving - one time payment rather than monthly.
  • Features - has all the features that competitors have such as Adobe, Nitro, etc.
In general Power PDF is easy to use and full of features. There are certain features that are not as intuitive as they should be or not located where you would expect them to be located.
Each Power PDF, Adobe and Nitro have little nuances to differentiate themselves, but they all can do the job. It all comes down to price and Power PDF seemed to be the most affordable for the same features.
I have not really had the need to use support other than use the online instruction manual to figure features out. The online user manual could use some work, such as illustrations.

Using Kofax Power PDF (formerly Nuance)

1 - I am the sole user of Kofax at our organization. I use it for viewing, editing, combining, redacting PDFs and creating Word docs from PDFs.
I do not have anyone that assists in-house to support Kofax.
  • Viewing PDFs
  • Editing PDFs
  • Combing documents to create a single PDF
  • Redacting information in a PDF
  • There are some features for signing the documents.
In general the product works as it should, but like most software there are some kinks.

Evaluating Kofax Power PDF and Competitors

Yes - Nitro, Adobe
  • Price
  • Product Features
  • Product Usability
Price was a big factor, but I also compared features.
I would not change my process. Generally I am happy with Kofax. Like most software it is not perfect, but most issues are minor.

Kofax Power PDF Implementation

It was fairly easy and straight forward. I did have some issues connecting to my scanner and scanning documents.
Change management was minimal
  • Connecting to the scanner.

Kofax Power PDF Support

I did not, since just a single license I did not expect there to be too many issues.
I have not had to call them for support. That is a bonus itself.

Using Kofax Power PDF

ProsCons
Relatively simple
Easy to use
Technical support not required
Quick to learn
Convenient
Feel confident using
Familiar
None
  • Combining and arranging multiple documents into a single PDF
  • Highlighting, seems to be an issue at first. It is like the system needs to rev up
Like most software could still use work. Some features are not as intuitive as I would like. Highlighting or copy text is not as smooth as it should be. For some reason if I do not close out of Kofax before shutting down, it will tell me Kofax is not letting the computer shut down and I have to force close.
