Overall Satisfaction with Kofax Power PDF (formerly Nuance)

  • Binding individual documents together.
  • Completing hard copy forms online rather that with pen and paper.
  • Extracting verbiage from PDFs that I will than bring into Word or Excel for editing.
  • Converting other format documents (e.g., MS Office) into PDF.
  • Scanning in hard copy music scores, cropping & editing them, and converting them into a music reading app (MobileSheets Pro) that runs on my tablet.
  • Using the OCR feature to make PDFs searchable.
  • Kofax Power PDF has all the features of Adobe Acrobat at a fraction of the cost.
  • I have found the OCR feature to be very accurate.
  • I like the text to speech feature -- it helps me review a document faster than if I were just reading it.
  • It seems that copying an image from another non-PDF source and then pasting it into Kofax doesn't work. The source needs to be converted to PDF first and then copied.
  • Compressing a document with musical notation sometimes does not work. After compression the notation is sometimes unreadable.
  • The "Help" component is outdated -- needs improvement to better accommodate, for example, multiple keywords.
  • Time saved on cropping documents.
  • Time saved on editing content in PDF documents (i.e., not having to retype).
  • Ease of use in terms of binding multiple documents together as, for example, one email attachment rather than sending a half dozen attachments.
My main quibble is that locating a feature using "Help" is clunky. For example, when I tried to find the "Read Aloud" functionality it seemed like it took 20 minutes to finally hit the right keyword(s) that identified what I was trying to do. I had been using the phrase "text to speech" and coming up with useless cross-references.

The app is well-suited for my use case.

Going back to musical scores, one problem I have is the situation where ALL pages have to be cropped (after they've been scanned in) BUT each page has to be cropped DIFFERENTLY owing to variations in, say margin width. This seems to pretty much require a laborious page-by-page effort.
