Overall Satisfaction with Kofax Power PDF (formerly Nuance)

It is used within the Clergy Services Department. We use it as a pdf document creation vehicle combining multiple sources into a final product. We also use it to generate pdfs so that they may be transferred to our Remarkable 2 tablets. This allows us to go almost completely paperless in our operations. We also use the program to convert pdfs into other formats and vice versa.
  • Integrates pdfs from multiple sources into a single pdf document.
  • Allows us to convert pdfs to other file formats and vice versa.
  • Allows us to download pdf searchable documents and look for specific information within the document.
  • My business does not have hard numbers of the kind that you suggest. We deal with personnel files. Kofax has helped us more readily access those files and to keep creating them moving forward. Our goal is a paperless office and Kofax is the building block of that goal.
  • In terms of document creation, we are able to create pdf documents that become guidebooks and other training material for the pastors of the annual conference.
I have been using Nuance for at least 10 years (pretty sure of that number...let's just say I can't remember when I first started using it...but I am glad that I did). From the beginning, Nuance, and then Kofax have met my needs for ease of use and for the ability to do more and more of the things that I need to get done with documents. PDF has become the standard for interchange in my office. I design a lot with Publisher. Most folks can't read publisher files. They can, though, read pdfs. It gets designed in Publisher and fine-tuned in Kofax and sent to ministers as the end product. I know they will be able to read and see it just the way I designed it.
I needed a program similar to Kofax Power PDF on my personal home computer. I couldn't afford Kofax for this sometimes use scenario. So I looked around and decided on Soda PDF. I was not as pleased. The interface was not as familiar and the way it was marketed, I am still not sure what features I have available to me and what features I need to pay for. Sure, it saved me some money, but I have had a less pleasing user experience and only really dabbled with some of the basic features. I should have spent the extra dollars and got my own version of the Kofax Power PDF.
Never really had to call about support in terms of use. It's intuitive enough that I can figure out how it works. Only times I have dealt with support has been in regards to licensing. I started out with one license in my office and then got one for my admin and then someone else got one when they heard how we were using the product. Somewhere along the way, we started getting a single bill for all three. Needed to split that cost into a couple of departments. The online support was able to straighten things out.

I have not tapped the full potential of this product. For me, I use the basics 90% of the time and when I need that other 10% I know that I can find it in Kofax Power PDF. For me, the function that allows me to search in pdfs is the most useful feature. I have certain documents with scattered bits of information that I need to quickly find. This software allows me to do that in a simple manner. Next in line would be the creation of a pdf document from multiple sources. Don't do this every day, but when I do, I know the software will allow me to quickly and easily accomplish the task.
It is well suited to the Office of Clergy Services, because of the volume of paperwork that is generated. We just had 500,000 + pages of files professionally scanned. All those files are now pdf searchable. We use Kofax Power PDF as the engine that allows us to do those searches. In this instance, we have saved on file space (we were running out of room!) and provided a quick and easy way to search multi-page documents that have been generated over the last 40+ years on thousands of ministers. We would never have even considered scanning all these documents had we not already been an active user of Kofax Power PDF and realized the potential that its use could offer to us.
