Overall Satisfaction with Lawson (Intentia)

We use Lawson for our ERP, supporting HR, GL, PO, and Payroll. Primary users are Accounting and Human Resources.
  • Very stable product. Some of its weaknesses are also its strengths. The lack of web services seems to actually increase stability.
  • No software vendor in this space is perfect. Lawson does perform as advertised.
  • Again, a weakness of this (limited functionality) is a hidden strength as well. In software there is a complexity/feature tradeoff. Where Lawson lacks in features, it does give you a more simple setup for your organization.
  • Features. Would love to see better delivery of new regulatory reporting, for example the 1095C for benefits.
  • I haven't seen many advancements in the core product in quite awhile. Would like to see a refreshed look.
  • Like all software vendors, there is a current push to go cloud-based, which I find nauseating. This is not unique to Lawson... but neither are they exempt from it.
  • We've been a customer since the early 80's. Avoiding conversion has saved us an incalculable amount of money. Fortunately, Lawson has kept up enough to keep meeting our needs.
  • Having a self-service portal saves us internal FTEs in Human Resources and Accounting. Benefits enrollment alone likely saves us one Benefits Coordinator FTE alone.
I've worked as an administrator, functional consultant, implementer and end-user of 3 different ERP products (Lawson, Oracle eBusiness Suite, and ViewPoint). Lawson fits in the middle of this pack. Oracle is the most feature-rich of the bunch (and also the most complicated and labor-intensive). Viewpoint is on the low end of the spectrum there... It was a nice little product for a niche market (construction companies), but has the most limited functionality. Lawson fits the sweet spot we need for a company of our size.
For a mid-sized company, it is a decent choice. Other ERP vendors will give you a better employee self-service portal. I'm assuming Lawson's price point is lower than those, however.
