Overall Satisfaction with LexisNexis Time Matters

Our entire law firm, including paralegals, attorneys and support staff use Time Matters. It is used as our primary case management platform. We manage our statute of limitations, calendars, to-dos, and case management through Time Matters. Time Matters plug-ins for Outlook, Adobe and Microsoft Office allow us to link emails, PDF's and documents to the case seamlessly (unless a plug-in crashes, which does happen periodically).
  • Tie Matters handles event and to-do notifications well. This ensures that all SOL's and due dates are met.
  • Time Matters does case management tasks well, including documenting cases, documenting client and opposing counsel interactions and court orders.
  • Time Matters does a good job of syncing all case data to a users Outlook Calendar, to ensure todo and event notifications on a users Outlook/phone.
  • If you have multiple locations and enable SQL replication, Lexis Nexus support will not support you. SQL replication works, but their support team will not touch your system as soon as they see SQL replication is being used.
  • Time Matters plug-ins for Outlook, Adobe Acrobat and MS Office all crash often and require reinstallation.
  • Time Matters licensing/support are costly.
  • We had to spend over $100,000 to customize Time Matters to work correctly with our medical malpractice and mass tort teams because the out of the box solution didn't work for both teams. Consultant costs are then required to maintain the customizations with each version upgrade.
  • I feel that we did not get any ROI on the licensing renewal costs because support is bundled with it and the Lexis Nexus support team wouldn't support of system because we used SQL replication.
  • Migration Costs to leave Time Matters for a cloud solution were high because of the complexities of the Time Matters software.
  • Filevine
Time Matters seems antiquated when compared to cloud solutions like Filevine. Remote worker productivity skyrocketed and internal support costs went way down. We no longer have to support additional remote access methods as Filevine is cloud-based and can be accessed from any web browser.
Captora, Filevine, Clio, QuickBooks Enterprise Solutions, Spiceworks, Hyper-V, Adobe Acrobat DC, Backblaze, AppAssure, Dell PowerConnect Switches, Dell PowerEdge R, FortiClient, Fortinet FortiGate, Cisco Aironet Access Points, Linksys Ethernet Switches, Mimecast Secure Email Gateway, Mimecast Enterprise Information Archiving, Mitel Applications Suite, LexisNexis PCLaw
Time matters works well when you are in the office, however, it is on-premise software and the lack of a cloud offering makes remote working problematic. We had to open up RDP ports to the internet to allow users to connect to the system remotely, which is less than ideal from a security standpoint.
