Overall Satisfaction with Linode

I am a consultant. Linode is used for developing websites for clients, my personal and family's sites, and for side hustles.
  • They're reliable; never had a major issue
  • Their customer service goes above and beyond with Linux help at times if you need it
  • I can see every one of my bills for the past 16 years I've been a customer
  • They're versatile; I have set up multiple Linux flavors on the same account; I've added and removed space from my virtual disk drives--all within minutes with a point-and-click interface
  • It's Linux--if you don't know how to run a Linux server, it might not be for you, but they make handling the install of typical configurations quite simple
  • The newer interface is a bit confusing the first time
  • Standardized pricing is a fixed monthly cost.
  • Linode is the lowest part of my monthly fixed-cost expenditures.
  • Amazon Virtual Private Cloud (VPC) and Bluehost
Linode is less expensive and more user-friendly than Amazon. I know Amazon has had more outages, especially recently.
Bluehost is fine(ish) for WordPress sites. But the response time of the virtual server is slow. You're also sharing it with other sites. With Linode, I have my own dedicated server. That solution is always faster.
I haven't needed to use Linode support that often. When I have, they've really gone above and beyond my expectations. Oftentimes an issue I experience is on my end (configuration). Yet they still help. They know Linux and are eager to help you have a good experience with their product, even if that means helping you learn how to configure Linux to a reasonable extent.
Linode paid for itself in a few months. The low-cost monthly fee is extremely affordable. I've added backup services over the years, and the TCO is easily met by the deposit of a consulting contract. It's an expense well worth having, even for non-production, non-revenue-generating situations.
I run websites for businesses. Five nines uptime is important. In the 16 years I've usedLlinode, I can only recall one outage, which affected the entire data center in one of the many cities Linode operates. The data center (at the time) was not exclusive to Linode and the power problems experienced there was not Linode's fault. Aside from that, their redundancy must be incredible because I haven't seen any outages again in over a decade.
Microsoft 365 (formerly Office 365), Google Analytics, Google Workspace (formerly G Suite)
Linode is unfathomably quick and reliable for deploying new servers for specific functions like WordPress, WooCommerce, game servers (Minecraft, TF2, Counterstrike, etc.), or simple default LAMP or LEMP servers. They have full distributions of Ubuntu, CentOS, Debian, Fedora, and a few others. If you need to deploy a server quickly, on budget, I've never seen anything simpler with this level of reliability. You can even set up separate virtual servers--in different cities/backbones, even--for backups and mirroring.

Using Linode

The interface is really simple. Over the years, Linode has added more services, yet the menus are well thought out, making it easy to find what you're looking to do. Once you find the right path, deploying or maintaining your server is very easy. A few clicks and I'm usually done for almost every task.
