Overall Satisfaction with Linode

Linode keeps us on the Internet. We use Linode for anything requiring cloud computing (what used to be called VPS hosting)--this covers our VPN needs, hosting for multiple websites, and the processing of digital media files (image reformatting, video encoding). We also run other small things like a small bind9 server. If we move into e-commerce, we'll use Linode for that, too.

  • Easy expandability of a given instance
  • Professional, reliable maintenance notifications
  • Reliability!
  • A small niggle: shared CPU has fallen since earlier days (2013), but that's to be expected
  • Prices have fallen over seven years; excellent ROI
Linode is competitively priced, but more importantly its management interface is fantastic. Over the past seven years, I have seen firsthand the deep expertise behind the decisions they make in both their physical layers (data centers) and software stacks.
Support from Linode has always been fast, always professional, always responsive. They've been helpful with bug reports and have given our services the benefit of the doubt when we were struggling to keep our instance secure. I am very thankful for that, and knowing their technical support is there if needed provides peace of mind.
Sungard Availability Services Managed Cloud - Amazon Web Services (AWS)
If you are creating an online service or an entirely new business, and its existence is predicated on solid, reliable cloud hosting, then it appears that your choices are many and the landscape is competitive, especially in the era of AWS. However, I would argue that Linode is the best option for almost all businesses that depend on cloud hosting. Here's why: when something goes wrong, Linode will be there for you. I can't say the same with other providers. And it is when something goes wrong that you need a business that is set up to help you repair the problem, or dissect the TOS, or provide debug information at an arbitrary (perhaps crazily so) depth--that crucible is where you'll find the most value from Linode.
