Overall Satisfaction with Mailchimp

Apart from my full-time job as an Analyst, I volunteer at a non-profit as Secretary. I use MailChimp every day to handle communication to about 1500 subscribers. Any events related to the non-profit will be sent to all the subscribers through campaigns. I design all the campaigns and send them personally. We send about 20 to 25 campaigns in a month, and every campaign will go to all the subscribers (about 1500) in the list.
  • Easy to use and I can see test campaigns
  • Predefined templates
  • Can send to many with one click
  • Scheduling is the best feature, can schedule all the campaigns to a later date and time
  • Only image files can be embedded in the email, allowing pdfs will be helpful
  • Many of our subscribers say they do not receive emails, when they have different email domains like cox.net etc., at times we do not understand how to help them
  • Mobile app, editing an email subject or campaign name is not possible, and that is a big disappointment
  • We use MailChimp for a non-profit, and there's not exactly ROI involved here
  • However, it saves lot of time for the volunteer as campaigns can be scheduled for a later date/time
  • We have about 1500 subscribers, so what we pay is higher, the return we get is timely communication to all.
  • Gmail, Yahoo and Outlook
Price seemed reasonable. Scheduling option seemed very useful. No. of subscribers was high, and do not want to give subscribers option to reply all or see others email addresses, can select entire list and not visible to subscribers. Predefined or any custom templates can be saved for every use. Testing campaigns is a useful feature to see how it appears before we send it to all.
Easy to use, scheduling feature, mass campaigning, multiple lists, templates - all these features are very helpful for organizations that need to communicate with their users on regular basis
Yeah we limited the use of gmail and yahoo after Mailchimp. We were able to communicate with a large group in one click and also we’ll in advance with scheduling feature. All the campaigns were designed in same format using the template feature. The replicare feature of campaign was helpful when we had to send similar campaigns with small changes.
Time saving, less effort , more effective, simple to use, reusable, reliable, consistent- these were all the pros of using Mailchimp
the cons were cost , it seemed slightly expensive for a nonprofit organization and another drawback was unsubscribe feature, once user unsubscribes by mistake accidentally, it is not easy for the owner to add them back.
MailChimp is very useful when you need to send information one way like campaigns/newsletters and you have many subscribers, where the replies can be channeled to a different email address. If you have fewer subscribers or the communication is with colleagues or friends, then MailChimp may not be the best idea.

Using Mailchimp

2 - We use mailchimp in the non-profit organization, where I volunteer. Secretary (myself) and Vice Secretary, use MailChimp for email campaigns. All the communication that happens will be through MailChimp. We send about 20 campaigns a month, and have around 1200 subscribers. One of the cons of mailchimp is, any campaign from it is considered as a promotion email, and goes to promotions tab in gmail.
1 - MailChimp is not complicated. Once the lists are loaded, the campaigning is simple. Initial templates and all are set in our account, and we use the set template repeatedly. And for our Non-profit, we need to send some campaigns with similar information, for which we use the replicate feature of the tool. So we haven't seen the use of any skillset for support, some basic functionalities, which any tech savvy can put to use.
  • Email Campaigns for Communication
  • Maintaining contact information through lists
  • History, which we can see and replicate in future
  • Scheduling feature
  • Scheduling feature
  • Replicate feature
  • Test email feature to the working team to verify before sending the actual email to about 1200 subscribers
  • File Storage
  • Links for files
It is very simple to use once we get familiar. And scheduling feature is a very nice option to plan in advance for upcoming event communication and reminders. Also the test email feature to verify if the campaign looks like how we had imagined. Some of the cons however are - campaign going to promotions, limited content editing options, and the limited file attachment options.

Evaluating Mailchimp and Competitors

Yes - Gmail & Yahoo, we were using these email services for sending out emails, there is no scheduling feature and because of that the job became very tough for the secretary who needs to send emails. With Mailchimp scheduling feature, we were able to schedule the email campaigns and reminders well in advance.

  • Product Usability
Mass campaigning & scheduling features - these two streamlined the way we were communicating with our users. It is way easier to use templates and schedule emails in advance, these features helped as its a volunteer work - these features of mailchimp helped in doing the work at our convenient time.
The only thing I would have looked forward is a video tutorial to pass on to the next member and also for features that are rarely used, tutorial would come handy in that case.
