Overall Satisfaction with Mattermost
We use Mattermost at Ortiz Gaming / IGS as the main communicator for all teams, integrating the offices in Sao Paulo, Mexico City, and the Philippines. We have previously used other solutions and chat services, but they were in some cases expensive for the number of users we have, or inefficient. We have migrated to Mattermost in the middle of the Covid pandemics, and we are very happy with the results so far.

- 75% reduction on the overall volume of emails in the organization.
We use the self-hosted community version in our organization and feel very confident with the fact that we have access to the source code. Before moving to Mattermost, we first had invested in a communication platform that was acquired by a competitor and discontinued, which brought many problems; and then a closed-source service that kept raising its cost to a point where it was not cost-effective for us anymore. Mattermost solved both problems.
Before Mattermost, we used Stride first, and then Slack as our communication platform. Stride got discontinued so it is not comparable, but Slack got very costly for us, with basically the same features as Mattermost - a matter of fact, the "reply" feature is surprisingly non-existent on Slack (you can reply by opening a different thread, but that is hard to follow in most cases), and not only exists in Mattermost but very straightforward. We have considered using Discord too, but then chose Mattermost for its open-source nature, and the possibility of running our very own self-hosted servers, with total control.

Mattermost Feature Ratings
Evaluating Mattermost and Competitors
Yes - It replace Slack, and the main reason for the substitution was cost reduction. We are happy with the change, as in terms of the features we need they are all covered.
- Integration with Other Systems
- Ease of Use
Transitioning from Slack to Mattermost within our organization was primarily driven by Mattermost's robust API compatibility for integrations. With a substantial volume of webhook calls necessary for notifications across our systems, Mattermost provided the perfect solution with its seamless integration capabilities. The ability to seamlessly integrate with existing systems via APIs ensured a smooth transition without disrupting our workflow. This compatibility not only enhanced our communication processes but also streamlined our operations, making Mattermost the ideal choice for our organization's needs.
Looking back, we can't help but wish we had made the decision sooner. Mattermost has unequivocally proven to be the right choice for our communication platform. In hindsight, we realize we spent too much time worrying about the potential impact of transitioning rather than focusing on the substantial benefits it would bring. If we were to revisit our evaluation and selection process, we would prioritize a more proactive approach, recognizing the value of embracing change rather than hesitating due to fear of transition.
