Overall Satisfaction with Micro Focus Data Protector

We use Micro Focus Data Protector as a backup tool for our SQL Server, Oracle Database, Vmware, and file system environments.
  • Micro Focus Data Protector has a very customizable backup schedule, allowing to edit the flat file according to our security policies.
  • Micro Focus Data Protector has a very easy to use interface.
  • We can update its clients in a very easy way.
  • There are some hard-to-implement integrations, such as Office 365, Acrople virtual center, and Vmware granular recovery
  • Some hardware is discontinued, despite their factories still having support, like a tape library, for example.
  • Micro Focus Data Protector support has to improve a better service. Some open cases take too long to solve.
  • During 14 years of using it, we never had a case in which some data needed couldn't be recovered. Positive
  • We still have difficulties implementing some integrations like Office 365 and Acropole. These environments are not being backed up. Negative
  • When we upgrade a version, we lose compatibility with some older clients and hardware. Negative
Some cases take so long to get a return or get a solution. In my opinion, among all the negative points from Micro Focus Data Protector, this is the most critical one. When we are dealing with backup, the solution has to be the fastest possible.

Very easy to use. What needs to improve is to make it easier to configure some integrations and features, such as office 365 integration, acropolis integration, block change-based backup, etc. Despite we have documentation, even following all the steps, the integration is hard to implement or doesn't work in the end.
Well suited: scenarios with very specific backups schedules; backups saved in tape libraries.

Less appropriate: environments with older Operational Systems and older hardware, such as tape libraries.

Using Micro Focus Data Protector

Yes. The Support premium is needed, specially in some complex scenarios. That's our case.
Yes - It was partially solved, but it wasn't in a timely fashion. The last issue took more than 30 days to get a solution and it wasn't 100% effective.
I opened a case asking to move some IDB files to another location and the analyst and engineer were very kind and assisted me to solve this case quickly and successfully.
