Overall Satisfaction with Microsoft Excel

We use Microsoft Excel for data analysis, financial analysis, and to generate graphs for Board reports. We use pivot tables a lot to produce needed results for data reporting and also for payroll and benefits tracking for our various funding sources.

  • Sorting and Filtering
  • Sort feature does not work if there are blank rows; very frustrating
  • Sometimes pivot tables don't update with refresh; have to delete the entire table and redo.
  • Our pivot tables for payroll and benefits have allowed me to identify exact costs by employee from multiple funding sources. This allows me to budget accurately and monitor expenses more exactly.
  • I use the charts and graphs as part of the financial report for our Board, which displays the financial data in an easy to understand format for Board members who do not have a strong financial background.
  • We export a lot of reports from other software programs into Microsoft Excel so we can perform data analysis to find answers to help make informed decisions.

Microsoft Excel is great for data analysis, grouping, summarizing, and reporting and also good for basic graphs and charts. I wouldn't use it for complex financial reporting or complex graphs and charts.

Excel is very easy to use and user friendly. It has a lot of functions that assist with manipulating data into a format that is usable and allows advanced sort and filter options in addition to pivot tables.
