Overall Satisfaction with MIP Fund Accounting (formerly Abila MIP)

We use MIP in our Finance and Accounting Dept only. We are a non-profit but we are an FQHC so we provide medical care and dental care at our facilities and MIP is not functional across our entire organization.
  • MIP has the ability to be customized to your specific GL needs.
  • MIP has grant tracking abilities.
  • MIP lets you have record retention right at your fingertips.
  • Bank rec is not a user-friendly operation, it lacks the ability for ease of use and clarity.
  • MIP needs a better platform for credit card statements and reconciliation. Right now, we have to manipulate the system so we can have these accessible.
  • Reporting tool needs to be upgraded. It isn't user-friendly and requires lots of training and trial and error.
  • We switched from Cougar Mountain to MIP and it has helped with our grant tracking and department expenses.
  • Reports were easier to use in Cougar and more standard to our needs.
  • The training process was very extensive with MIP and our training person was not a very good "trainer," she just showed us where to go but didn't give the logic behind it or give real-life examples.
MIP was referred to us by CHCA as this is what other FQHCs in the area and in our state use.
I can see where MIP would be a great tool for retail or operations that use a complicated GL string. If MIP would talk to other medical software it would make our lives a lot easier and would eliminate the need for double entry.

MIP Fund Accounting Feature Ratings

Support from Community Brands

When we first started the implementation we have a team for the IT software side of things and then a trainer named Jo helped us with the set up and initial fund balances. In MIP we had more flexibility with our GL numbers so we had to do some revamping and adding to our own GL string which took us a while to get those transferred and decoded. I was disappointed in the fact that there was no helpful guide or a step by step walk through or handbook. There was a help button with questions and answers but not what we were hoping for. It was difficult for us to find the places in the modules where Cash was entered vs Cash Disbursements and how to enter our Vendors etc... when we had our training sessions with Jo it was over the phone and it was very fast paced. We had to have her repeat and slow down several times
We had several trainings over the phone with Jo mostly because of IMPORTS and REPORTS. These were a huge hiccup. We had to create our reports and not being familiar with the system we had to explain to Jo what we wanted to see and then she would tell us where to go and what to add to the content or filter. Import was difficult because of the definition files and it was definitely something you couldn't do without a trainer. The Def codes don't match the same wording as the modules us so for example player id would be vendor id so it was a struggle for us. We also attended an in person meeting with the CHCA in Little Rock where the trainer was Jo again and we went into some further details as to vendor maintenance and AR.
There was a time when we had some turn over in our department and we needed help with getting the updated forms for the 1099 misc form vendors. We only had til the end of January and we needed this information very quickly. I remember the support team walking me through the process and even doing a remote screen so they could see what the issue was. We needed an upgrade and he walked us through the process step by step. It took sometime due to our servers and internet speed at that time but he was very patient and stayed with me the whole time.
Our team considered the cloud based version but then ultimately decided against that but we have been satisfied with the product so far. We are a non-profit health care facility that caters to the needs of our community that does not have access to quality healthcare and most of our funding comes from grants. It is vitality important that our financials specify which funds are for each grant and how much is pending and what categories the expenses fall under and MIP has been very helpful in our grant tracking. Especially with Covid going on there are more grants and donations than ever before with set guidelines and strict regulations MIP is the key to keeping our company a float during these trying times.

Using MIP Fund Accounting (formerly Abila MIP)

4 - Currently we have our Finance team accessing MIP which includes the CFO, the Controller and the Accounting Coordinators. The Controller and the lead are the ones that have had the most training and most knowledge on the platform and usually make the reports and imports requested by the CFO as needed.
  • Grant Tracking
  • Bank Reconciliation
  • Financial Audit
  • Using Bank reconciliation for American Express credit card statements
  • Possible Budget Funding with extensive Funds to include our grants
It would be a lot of work to switch to a different software and this one is doing the job but would like to see an upgraded platform soon
