Overall Satisfaction with MIP Fund Accounting (formerly Abila MIP)

MIP Fund Accounting (formerly Abila MIP) is used for our financial reporting for the whole organization and one subsidiary organization. We track and report by department, program, grant, and fund (restricted vs unrestricted). We use detailed activity reports for grant invoicing. Separating by fund allows us to better track grants according to restriction and solve previous issues with revenue recognition.
  • Offers multiple attribute assignments allowing more precise program tracking
  • Tight controls and security features
  • Extensive reporting options and customization
  • Entry screens and layouts are too dense, not user-friendly
  • I have to customize my windows every time -- need to be able to set preferences for columns and drill downs
  • Too easy to make data entry mistakes because the layout is hard on the eyes and relies on having to glance down at the tiny window for text descriptions of number codes

I would recommend MIP Fund Accounting (formerly Abila MIP) for non-profit fund accounting purposes, although I haven't used many other more recent programs other than Quickbooks. My recommendation would include the same as what I provided in the last two questions, the pros and cons, plus more details about making sure you know all of the deep inner workings for setting up chart of accounts and reporting. It would be great to see MIP Fund Accounting (formerly Abila MIP) move towards a more user-friendly, less technical layout and design. Simple data entry screens that also provide easy quick-glance double-checking (symmetry is key). Make better use of the white/blank spaces in all screens. It doesn't have to be as simplified as Quickbooks, but somewhere in between would go a long way towards making MIP Fund Accounting (formerly Abila MIP) an exceptional program.
