Overall Satisfaction with MS SharePoint

We use this as a tool for the various divisions within the IT Department to store documentation, spreadsheets and other material that are provided to our auditors for our change management process. The security of MS SharePoint allows us to control access as well as the security of the information contained in the documents.
  • We are able to secure the documents much as we would if stored on a file server.
  • It provides a browser interface that is extremely user-friendly.
  • At times the properties (which includes the document name and URL are a bit cumbersome as one must click on part of the web site that is not intuitive.
  • The upload process is a bit cumbersome in that it does a brouse of the users PC.
  • Positive in that it allows us to quickly create websites with the necessary security.
  • Positive as we are able to use this tool as a means of documenting change management to our auditors.
I have not used any other tool. We are a Microsoft heavy company as most are and like to use the tools of one vendor if at all possible to minimize complexity in our IT environment for upgrades, training, and overall management of our documents. If a replacement exists, there would be a heavy burden of proof with cost being a major driver for any change.
Very well suited to create a browser interface for storing and retrieving documents. Security functionality is granular enough to work in large companies that have a high degree of segregation of duties. It is not appropriate if the documents must be cross-referenced with data stored in a database.

Using MS SharePoint

1000 - Information Technology, Human Resources, and Project Management functions are the key functional areas that comprise the user base. There may be other functions, but these are the most important ones to our organization.
10 - Microsoft trained personnel as well as oracle data base analysts are capable of supporting this tool. In many cases, we elevate people from our help desk who are assigned to the support of MS SharePoint.
  • Documentation for our auditors
  • Storage of IT documentation for sharing across divisions.
  • Documenting the system backup schedule for access by our Oracle support personnel
  • Documenting our server reboot process.
  • Publish information on our intranet
  • Allow some of our power users to create share point web sites.
We have no issues with the product, it is easy to use, and our support people are comfortable with the administration of sharepoint. We have a strong relationship with Microsoft and have good pricing from the vendor.
