Overall Satisfaction with Newswire

We use Newswire to publish official company announcements. While we have a company blog, we also feel it's important to get more formal announcements officially documented and distributed on a credible wire service. Newswire doesn't really address what you would call a "problem", it's simply one of many available wire services and we chose this particular one for primarily cosmetic reasons.
  • Formatting and publishing of announcements
  • Light proofreading by an editor
  • Distribution to media outlets that republish wire content
  • Other options for social media, pitching and extended distribution
  • More meaningful distribution capabilities - as a B2B software company, it's not useful for us to have announcements automatically syndicated to local country radio station websites. We care more about real editorial inclusions and mentions.
  • Too many add-ons - there are so many options presented at every step of the publishing process. They tend to get in the way.
  • We get a better looking official announcement in a well lit environment
We looked at several news distribution services and found the usability to be better than alternatives by a fairly long way. But most importantly the way the content is presented to the end-user (i.e. the content consumer) is way better than the others.
The others are just so clunky. Newswire has a contemporary look, which is really the main benefit we cared about. This is because for our category and market, the distribution/syndication services that all of these providers tout are highly irrelevant.

For B2B companies that want to officially publish their announcements to a wire service, and have that content presented professionally, Newswire is great. But don't think of Newswire as a substitute for a more holistic PR and media relations effort. While they tout a large distribution footprint, with some exceptions, most of the outlets they syndicate to are throwaways for B2B software companies. For example, most target sites are the websites of local radio stations or TV affiliates. Or they might just be junk sites that rely on wire syndication as their sole source of content. For companies like ours, Newswire's (and their competitors') distribution capabilities do not offer any real value.
