Overall Satisfaction with OneDrive
We use Onedrive as part of the Office 365 suite to backup all the personal files at each users workstation, as well as share documents online with clients, in a way where multiple people can edit a word or excel document at the same time. Getting a free terabyte of storage for each user is really handy in making sure everyones personal files are always safe in the cloud.
- OneDrive backups up the folders you specify automatically
- OneDrive files in the cloud allow multiple users to edit the same file at the same time.
- OneDrive allows you to share large files with others easily and without emailing them.
- OneDrive file conflict resolution could use some work as it can create multiple copies of the same file which can get confusing.
- It would be nice to get some kind of file versioning or restore from a previous date functionality for files stored in onedrive.
- Large file support is not allowed above 15gb files, which for some email backup files might not be enough.
- One free terabyte of storage is enough for pretty much every user.
- file syncing to the cloud automatically is huge for users who forget to backup their personal files.
- Sharing large files online is huge for allowing users to share files without emailing them.
- A positive ROI has been backing up users files, so when a users computer crashed and was unrecoverable, we still had copies on their files in the cloud and they didn't lose their files.
- One negative ROI has been the time wasted cleaning up file conflicts on the server because a file was open by multiple users and it saved different copies of the same file.
- One positive ROI has been the space saved in users email boxes by not having to email large files, their mailboxes dont fill up as often anymore and they dont need to waste time archiving or cleaning up their mailboxes.
- Google Drive and Dropbox
OneDrive is my go to solution because included in the price of OneDrive is full access to the Microsoft Office suite of programs. It also includes all the same features as Google Drive and Dropbox, but includes those programs and even an email account if you want, so its the most complete solution in my opinion.
