Overall Satisfaction with Oracle GoldenGate
Oracle GoldenGate is used in a traditional manner for homogeneous data replication between production and non-production environments. This allows the different environments to be utilized for different purposes with the same source data. Some environments are for real-time data analysis while others are backend reporting and analysis.
Oracle GoldenGate allows us to split highly responsive, mission critical systems from lower environments while retaining clean copies of source data.
Oracle GoldenGate allows us to split highly responsive, mission critical systems from lower environments while retaining clean copies of source data.
- Integrates with Oracle databases and Oracle database servers (particularly exadata - engineered systems)
- Easy to define source and destination data attributes and configuration
- Robust error reporting
- More integration with traditional Oracle products such as SQL*plus
- GUI
- More transparent integration with OEM
- More standard error reporting similar to traditional Oracle products
- Positive--no separate licensing from Oracle database products or engineered systems, so no extra cost
- Negative--too complex to become fully adopted as the de facto data replication tool
- Negative--too difficult to support, so tool-specific specialists are required to handle configuration and support
Oracle GoldenGate is the preferred solution for streamlining cross-platform data replication; with Autonomous Database, Data Pump import and export can provide similar results but are less robust and require much more customization. Data Pump does provide a great degree of ease of use as it is fully integrated with the Oracle database product whereas Oracle GoldenGate is its own standalone tool.
