Overall Satisfaction with Oracle Primavera Portfolio Management

We use Oracle Primavera 6 across our organization to manage schedules for the projects we build as a company.
  • Primavera as a scheduling software can manage large project schedules regardless of complexity.
  • P6 is powerful enough to identify the longest pathway to the completion of a project. This is also known as CPM.
  • P6 can handle multiple scenarios and save them as a separate baseline schedule. This can be helpful for figuring theoretical sequences.
  • P6 is not as intuitive as other scheduling software. It usually requires someone who is trained in the program to use it exclusively.
  • P6 can have multiple versions of the baseline schedule. This is not intuitive like saving a file, which usually leads to confusion.
  • P6 is very costly for smaller companies to afford.
  • P6 has had measurable ROI in the fact that projects can be completed on schedule or sooner using it.
  • P6 it presents data date stamps, which are used to share with clients during the project for the progress of the schedule.
  • P6 may have a high level of entry to use for the smaller project, which can be a hindrance to use.
I have also used Microsoft Project in the past to do scheduling. While easier to use than Primavera, it does not have the same capabilities to determine CPM. Furthermore, it would not be appropriate for larger sized projects.
P6 as a scheduling software is very useful to manage construction projects. I've used it exclusively for construction projects and it has been successful in influencing how projects are sequenced.

On the other hand, it can be cumbersome to use and still requires a dedicated "P6" person to set up the initial schedule.
