Overall Satisfaction with Paycor

We are using Paycor for Payroll and HR services across our US organization. We even use it to track HR data for non US employees. All of our US employees get their pay stubs online and are able to complete their benefit enrollments online. Our employees can make their own address and bank changes. We have people all over the US using it at the employee level.
  • Paycor's strength is customer service. Our client services team knows our company's payroll and HR needs and is always there to answer our questions and provide guidance. There is a real relationship built there and it makes a huge difference to know the person on the other end of the line is always the same and knows the history of your concerns.
  • Paycor's products are constantly being improved. They truly listen to their clients and make every effort to assure that ongoing enhancements to their products address specific needs that clients have. Their marketing and development teams interact with clients on feedback forums and in user focus groups. It's an amazing feeling to make a suggestion for an improvement and see it come to life in a future upgrade!
  • The ability to add custom fields to both the HR and Payroll applications has proven to be a valuable tool for our company, as it's allowed us to eliminate external spreadsheets and databases and make Paycor the single repository of data that previously was scattered throughout the company.
  • The interface between Payroll and HR still has room for improvement, there are many cases where this interface only goes one way, and there should never be a need to enter the same data in two places.
  • The local tax functionality, while extensive, is cumbersome to use and requires far too many steps.
  • Imports from outside of Paycor are inconsistent - some things are easily imported and others are awkward. The newly added onboarding module only connects to Payroll and not to HR, which requires extensive duplicate entry. The newly added performance review module is similarly lacking in features.
  • The lack of support for foreign addresses is a source of ongoing frustration for us.
  • We have been able to eliminate many external spreadsheets and databases and consolidate data into Paycor
  • Automated carrier feeds have simplified benefit administration and reduced our workload
  • Online open enrollment has been a huge time saver for us and our employees have been very happy with the level of employee self service available
  • Paycor's ability to export data to other products has allowed us to synchronize data across multiple platforms within the company and assure that changes made in Paycor are reflected in our other systems.

We used Ceridian's Source Assist and later the HR/Payroll Latitude web Products for over ten years.

Customer support at Ceridian was a big reason we chose to leave, and Paycor's dedication to client satisfaction has not disappointed us.

The lack of flexibility in Ceridian's platform always frustrated us and Paycor makes it easy to customize the product to meet our needs, instead of having to modify our requirements to fit the product's abilities.

At Ceridian it seemed that changes, when made, rarely made things easier for us. We have been pleased to find that Paycor listens to client concerns and makes changes that make life easier.

I would recommend Paycor without reservation to anyone looking for a payroll service with excellent customer support. Depending on the size of the company and whether the client is looking to include HR, onboarding, recruiting, timekeeping, and other functions under a single provider, I might recommend exploring alternative providers for comparison. While the connection and flow between modules remains limited in some ways, there is also an excellent opportunity at this time for a company to be an active participant in the development of better integrated products as Paycor continues to grow. For clients with an immediate need for a large scale, fully integrated product, it may be more appropriate to consider a comprehensive cloud based provider.

Evaluating Paycor and Competitors

Yes - we replaced Ceridian HR/Payroll Latitude because of increasing frustration with customer service and system inflexibility
  • Product Usability
  • Vendor Reputation
  • Positive Sales Experience with the Vendor
  • Third-party Reviews
Paycor's commitment to customer satisfaction was evident in the reviews we received from current clients
It would have been helpful to have been able to incorporate the search for an onboarding module in this process so that we could have considered Paycor's offerings in this area up front.

Paycor Implementation

I've been through a payroll software implementation multiple times in my career, ranging from upgrades to an existing platform to complete replacement of providers. This implementation was the easiest from the standpoint of confidence in my implementation personnel. The implementation consultants at Paycor were AMAZINGLY knowledgeable about the software and offered us advice at every step of the way. We never had any concerns that they didn't know what we wanted or needed.
Yes - Payroll and Tax modules were implemented first, followed by the human resources module and general ledger mapping a few weeks later. We implemented benefits and open enrollment a month or so after go live, and then employee self service a few months later. We implemented the ACA module last year.
Change management was a small part of the implementation and was well-handled - So far we found that the advice we received was excellent and we built a structure that is very flexible and has been able to handle multiple changes and additions to our organizational structure over the three years we have used the product. We were very careful to take steps to make everything adaptable to future changes.
  • Bringing HR up later than payroll was a HUGE misstep and it took us several weeks to get the data in synch. The integration between payroll and HR is not full and it would have worked much better to go the other way.
  • There were unexpected issues related to the funding process and we were surprised to be required to obtain a letter of credit.
  • History data was compromised due to poor efforts by our previous provider.

Paycor Support

Some of our issues seem to take longer than others, especially those on the HR side. I find that in HR we often get the answer that something isn't possible initially only to discover later that we weren't asked enough questions and that we could have accomplished what we wanted another way. I've learned to describe what I want to do, rather than asking a specific question.
ProsCons
Quick Resolution
Good followup
Knowledgeable team
Problems get solved
Kept well informed
No escalation required
Immediate help available
Support understands my problem
Support cares about my success
Quick Initial Response

Yes - Yes they are insanely alert to problem reports and I am always in awe of how fast they react and how many people get involved. We have found more than once that the problem got fixed and the update pushed out before we actually got an email back on the status. They take our concerns very seriously.
Our client services rep went out of her way to assist us with an import that didn't seem to work as we'd hoped the first time we did it. Instead of leaving us stuck with the consequences of our errors, she offered advice on what to change and how to modify the import to accomplish our needs and worked with Paycor's IT team to re-do the import for us and make everything right.

Using Paycor

  • Importing to the pay grid is a SNAP compared to our previous provider
  • It's still amazing to me how well the employer 401K match accrual works. In five years' work we never managed this at our other provider
  • GL maintenance is getting much better
  • 401K rate changes take too many steps
  • Local tax is insanely cumbersome
