Overall Satisfaction with Paylocity

We just transitioned to Paylocity in July. We're using them for time clock management via tablets, HR and payroll, onboarding, performance, and COBRA. We've integrated Employee Navigator with Paylocity, and our first payroll with the new insurance deductions will be December 2.
  • Frances Klein was excellent. She was our HR & Payroll implementation person
  • COBRA has become a lot easier. We used to have that with a separate company, so I had to manually enter new employees and any events. That now happens automatically when I make employee changes in Paylocity.
  • Onboarding is helpful. It reduces the amount of paper I have to keep, and we can get a lot of the administrative tasks done with the employee before their first day (ideally).
  • The process of moving the time clock info into the payroll batch is confusing. I've typed out instructions that include, "Click Save, not Approve" and "If you release the hold and it's still hanging, hit the orange Run Audit button again. This usually clears the problem." It isn't an intuitive process, and it's a bit buggy.
  • If the PTO amount will leave an employee at 0 hours, you may get an error saying the employee is going negative on the audit, which they're not.
  • I find it difficult to find the reports I want. I plan to spend more time when it's quiet in my office in December and January doing more training, but I often have to email service because I can't figure out how to get the data I need.
  • Our Time & Labor implementation didn't go smoothly. I found several errors that occurred during setup, including an accrual error. Problems with accruals was the primary reason we switched from our last company of 30 years to Paylocity, so this was very discouraging.
  • They weren't able to locate our account with American Funds for our 403(b). I finally gave up and decided to make the deposits manually after each payroll like we used to.
  • I assume shift differentials could have been configured in both HR & Payroll and Time & Labor. That makes it confusing when I'm setting up a new employee because I see the shift differential in two places.
  • Onboarding is easier. We have less physical paper.
  • Performance tracking, particularly the journal function, is really helpful to document discussions with employees.
  • Employees are able to transfer from their regular shift to one that pays a shift differential from the time clock, which means we don't have to manually manipulate their pay rate on their time clock entries within Paylocity.
I don't feel I can adequately and fairly answer this questions. We've been with Paylocity for five months, with a few months of implementation work preceding it. We are very much still in the learning phase of the software. We have seen that being able to provide holiday hours automatically is helpful. I'm in the midst of open enrollment changes, but it does look like those payroll deductions are going to be automated from Employee Navigator to Paylocity. That's helpful.
Employees haven't used these features much yet. They were used to receiving paper pay stubs every other week, and moving to getting that information from the app has been a big change. Some employees have told me how easy it has been for them to update their information via the app, but we've also had some problems with the app. A support person at Paylocity told me that whenever the app doesn't work we should try it on a browser, so they know there are issues.
We are using Onboarding, Performance, COBRA, and the Self-Service Portal through Paylocity that we didn't/couldn't use in PrimePay.

Do you think Paylocity delivers good value for the price?

Yes

Are you happy with Paylocity's feature set?

Yes

Did Paylocity live up to sales and marketing promises?

No

Did implementation of Paylocity go as expected?

Yes

Would you buy Paylocity again?

Yes

I appreciate the added functionality we've gained when we switched to Paylocity, specifically performance and onboarding. I appreciate that COBRA is integrated with payroll now. I know there is a lot more training I need to do myself within PEAK to get more comfortable with the platform. I haven't found Paylocity's platform to be particularly intuitive, but that may be the nature of payroll software.
