Overall Satisfaction with Pure Storage FlashArray

Pure Storage FlashArray (Pure) has been a very stable and excellent product for the last 18 months and all the latency issues that we had experienced in the past with other storage arrays disappeared after we started using Pure. Pure has a rock-solid support team who address issues before they become critical.
  • Compression.
  • Deduplication, Real-time replication.
  • Easy to use and configure; reliable.
  • High IOPS.
  • I haven't noticed anything so far.
  • The performance of the application has increased dramatically after we started using the All Flash Array.
  • Overall SQL licensing cost reduced due to better latency and IOPS.
  • We got more Data reduction and compression on array than what was promised
  • Performance of storage is rock solid
  • its been more than 3 years and not disruption noticed during firmware upgrade
It's been almost 3 years that we have been using Pure Storage FlashArray, and I would recommend any customer to give it a try. You will definitely be impressed with its performance, the seamless features, and how easy it is to operate. There hasn't been any issue observed in these 3 years and all the upgrades have happened without any outages.
We always had 100% uptime and the array was performing at its best without having any issues related to either IOSP, bandwidth, latency, etc. We also gained a positive result when we performed the disaster recovery exercise where the RTO and the RPO were impressive, which wasn't the case with our old storage.
First and foremost, implementing and setting up the hardware in the data center is a seamless job. Creating the LUN, adding the LUN under the protection group for the data replication is something that is most useful and appealing. Monitoring the Pure Storage FlashArray through the mobile app is very impressive as you can look for the basic status without being in front of a computer.
The documentation from Pure is in laymen's language and anyone with basic knowledge can perform the storage operation without any hassle.
Just try PoC with Pure and see the result.
Pure Storage FlashArray consistently monitors the array and the support team fixes the issue even before it becomes critical.
For better performance, cost savings, support, for better compression and deduplication and easy upgrades.
  • We have been using Pure Storage FlashArray for almost three years and there haven't been any issues experienced by internal or end-user customers.
Pure Storage FlashArray has completely replaced our existing EMC storage and we started noticing performance getting better. The Datastore migration used to complete in 30 seconds compared to 30 minutes before. This is one of the major differences that we noticed during our POC with Pure Storage FlashArray. Creating and provisioning a LUN to a host can be done in a max of 3-4 steps thus reducing the complexity and the time.

Pure Storage FlashArray (Pure) uses just 3U space in our rack and configuring the new storage and provisioning the LUN to a host took a max of one hour. This includes the mounting of the storage as well. There isn't any downtime noticed when it comes to maintaining, as a Pure engineer performs the maintenance remotely upon scheduling.

It's been almost 3 years that we have been using Pure and based on the performance gain that we have seen, there is no hesitation as to why it should be renewed.

Evaluating Pure Storage FlashArray and Competitors

Yes - EMC VNX 5200 and it was costing more to renew the support rather than buying a all flash array

I would follow the same approach of performing a PoC with the vendor before implementing it in production.

Pure Storage FlashArray Implementation

Since we tested this in the PoC environment, it made us comfortable to move this to PROD.
Yes - We tested it as a PoC, moved the UAT environment, and then switched the PROD to Pure
Change management was a big part of the implementation and was well-handled - We had this planned very well and the migration from old storage to Pure was seamless and any application that needed downtime was performed during the regular maintenance window.
  • There weren't any issues observed as the risk analysis was performed very well.
  • Migrating the RDM had little challenge as it needs the data copy, as Vmotion is not supported in HyperV

Pure Storage FlashArray Reliability

Based on 3 years experience of using the product
So far, the storage is available 24x7 even during a major upgrade.
We have seen $$ savings in terms of SQL license due to the performance improvement that we have seen in Pure compared with the old storage. We were able to lower the CPU count on SQL Servers due to the fact that the Pure array was providing solid performance on the DB queries.

Integrating Pure Storage FlashArray

I haven't used any integration so far.
