Overall Satisfaction with Pure Storage FlashArray

The FlashArray is used by the front office. Additionally, we use asynchronous replication to our disaster recovery location.
  • Instant snapshots and cloning.
  • Instant recovery from snapshots.
  • Asynchronous replication.
  • Minor - Snapshot creation from VMware takes an unusually long time if the memory snapshot is enabled.
  • Minor - FlashArray software does not currently support a much needed "keep last X snapshots (replicas)" option in protection groups.
  • Based on our calculations ROI is going to be better than with Dell EMC, HPE 3Par assuming we keep it for more than 4 years.
- Dell Equallogic and Compellent
- Dell EMC VMAX
- HPE 3Par
Well suited for any applications requiring a high performance/high-reliability storage solution that is100% based on flash.

Upgrading Pure Storage FlashArray

Yes -
Over the last 2 years we had several minor and major upgrades. There was zero downtime, the process was always very smooth and was 100% completed by Pure Support without any issues whatsoever.

The software is just getting better and better with every release.
  • Improved support for vVols
  • Continuous replication (ActiveDR)
  • Improvements in de-duplication and compression
  • Even better integration with VMware

Evaluating Pure Storage FlashArray and Competitors

Yes -
For quite sometime we were thinking of what would we do with our slowly aging Dell Equallogic arrays. Even though Dell was saying that we can reply on Equallogic for years to come, we were convinced that Dell (similar to HP) do not have clearly defined storage strategy, instead they just buy potentially successful competitors with the idea to either migrate to their products or to kill their products. This is frustrating, as no matter what they say about their bright future at the time when you shop for storage, in 2-3 years it turns out that whatever they sold you, have no future at all.

This is different with Pure Storage. We feel that it is a long-term relationship, and that we will not be left on a side of the road.

When we computed the TCO over 6+ years, we found that Pure Storage solutions would cost us less than comparable offerings from Dell, HP and other companies. In addition, with Pure Storage the support costs would never increase, no licenses to buy, no worries about hardware being outdated.
