Overall Satisfaction with Pure Storage FlashArray

We use Pure Storage FlashArray with integration in OpenStack with our private cloud. We also have the boxes connected directly to the physical servers, and in turn, by VMware and Xen. We have no commercial problems.
  • Online compression and deduplication
  • Integration with OpenStack
  • Low latency compared to its competitors
  • I see nothing to improve on the side of Pure Storage FlashArray
  • In our commercial objectives, Pure Storage FlashArray is a positive impact since the queries to the database are really fast now.
We have all these devices in our private cloud so that the comparison is given by itself. If we have an application that is delaying, we only have to migrate the volume to the Pure Storage FlashArray and without more arrangements. We always manage to lower the latency and its once the online compression improves significantly.
Relational and non-relational databases are adequate and get a very good understanding. For databases like Mongo, MySQL, Cassandra it is good. But it is less suitable for archiving storage as it is wasted.

Upgrading Pure Storage FlashArray

Yes - It always works without problems since in the case of iscsi the multipath paths are ok, there are some points to check before doing the upgrade, such as the connectivity of the hosts, or the multipath configuration in each host.
But we had no downtime on any of the 35+ upgrades
  • faster menu
  • Fix the security
  • list of all by iops of volume or host, rw, rd or bandwich be more than 5 at the same time

Using Pure Storage FlashArray

50 - At this moment it is the main storage of the company with which we are running 75% pure, both as flash array and flash blade for object
2 - They have to be storage administrators, know SAN, ISCSI and NFS protocols and shares, and in our case knowledge of openStack
  • storage for Oracle
  • Storage for NFS
  • Storage for Iscsi
  • Storage for openStack (StoragePools)
  • integration with aws
  • Native NFS on storage
They have a very good renovation plan which has the change of equipment to always be at the top of technology and in turn the support is very good, depending on the type of license you have if it is gold, silver or black.

Evaluating Pure Storage FlashArray and Competitors

Yes - Netapp, Swift, Hp, Huawei, Vmax
  • Product Features
  • Product Usability
  • Product Reputation
When we talk about cost, they have to take into account that pure has a very high deduplication rate and online comprehension, which reduces the cost at the space level, in the case of oracle it has a data 13:1.
With more experience in different models, we can say that based on the needs we know how to distinguish between M, X, Flash Blade or C models.

Pure Storage FlashArray Implementation

You only have to have the ports that request from pure for data, two from mgmt and a floating port for mgmt since in what is back end the controllers are active passive

Pure Storage FlashArray Training

  • Online training
  • in-person training
  • no training
Excellent trainig
In my case I took a training the flash array which cleared all my doubts
The product is very intuitive, having previous knowledge of protocols, network configuration and others

Configuring Pure Storage FlashArray

Is just right for this type of product
yes, all the best practices for Pure were installed and configured
No - we have not done any customization to the interface
No - the product does not support adding custom code
Only checking that the hosts are not in single port is the best because if any controller falls we would lose what we have there at that time until the controller is up again

Pure Storage FlashArray Support

Quick Resolution
Good followup
Problems get solved
Immediate help available
Support understands my problem
Support cares about my success
Quick Initial Response
PureStorage equipment comes with support, this can be with different SLAs but they all have support from the smallest to the largest model
It always worked very well, the only thing that in the last version of Purity they promised native NFS in the box and did not explain that it was only for model X
Yes - We had a latency problem in the network, product of a high consumption of writing in an iscsi volume, which we cannot list from pure1 nor from the box when we want to apply some filter. Only list 5 volumes
When an HBA board of one of the controllers of a team broke, which restarted in less than a week, we had a new and changed controller working ok

Using Pure Storage FlashArray

Like to use
Relatively simple
Technical support not required
Well integrated
Quick to learn
Feel confident using
  • Create HostGroups
  • Snapshot
  • Add host wwn and iqn
  • Create Vol
  • Resize Vol
  • Change ip mgmt and data
  • Configuration for iscsi.conf on different OS versions
Having the Pure1 tool available is not difficult at all to manage the teams, apart from that we can see how they could grow in the future and prepare to make an expansion.
Yes - In android it works ok, iOS did not test it.
The interface shows a general view of the arrays, the Remote Console can be opened from there if we have from the cell phone vpn and we can see the consumption, iops, and bandwich

Pure Storage FlashArray Reliability

In our case we have equipment in all of Latin America in different data centers and with the mobile app or with pure1 we have everything centralized in just one
So far we had some problems, controller reboot, hba board down, rarely high latency. But the support was always there before the problem arose

With its ssd technology and some equipment with nvme we have lowered the latency from 50 to 1

Integrating Pure Storage FlashArray

It has a simple form of integration but it should have more manuals
  • MySQL
  • Oracle
  • OpenStack
we have established the relationships both in openstack and directly on the servers , in the case of openstack, it is necessary to install CINDER
  • aws
Pure already supports this integration
  • File import/export
  • API (e.g. SOAP or REST)
Follow all the recommendations from Pure to integrate with the desired platform .
Always leave a ticket in pure 1

Relationship with Pure Storage

They were always present at the installation, although we installed it without problems, they were always there to help us as they also recommended the equipment we needed based on our needs.
Initially we bought a single equipment which they left us to make a POC, then when we bought several the prices began to be more attractive
