Overall Satisfaction with Quickbase

We use Quickbase in various ways to support tracking and reporting of information. Many processes that were manual or tracked in spreadsheets have been converted to Quickbase applications. The business areas include administrative, clinical, research, Human Resources, information services, interpreter services, nursing, facilities, project management, time reporting, communications, and more. The scope is different for each app. One of our primary applications is to track projects - active and pipeline - as well as other work for an overall IT portfolio. I use it to review status, track progress, and report overall statistics to leadership.
  • Simple data entry
  • Low code
  • Reporting
  • More administration/ support functionality
  • Better graphics in reporting
  • Pipelines not as good as automations

Yes

Would you buy Quickbase again?

Yes

Yes. Our group now has a reputation for building applications quickly to track employee or other data compared to larger, more expensive solutions that need development teams or integrators. We built a COVID dashboard for leadership within a matter of days in 2020, and it is still used in our hospital 2.5 years later by leadership. We've turned around nurse scheduling applications, training, and demographic applications far more quickly than more traditional development projects. Our custom-built time reporting application has been used for a decade now, and the hours data is extremely helpful in determining how we're spending our time.
  • Building and deploying business applications faster
  • Improving our ability to drive insights from our data
  • Improving collaboration across one or more teams
  • Solving a specific business challenge
  • Building and deploying an application (or multiple applications) that meets our exact needs
Have achieved most - speed, collaboration, business solutions, and specificity. We need to get better at using data not just to track status but to use it to make smart business decisions. That’s where better graphical reports could help us achieve that goal. Word of mouth has helped with collaboration. We recently updated our resource allocation application to help managers better assign resources and report on staffing gaps. A large change in the update is to compare allocations there with actuals from our time reporting app, also built in Quickbase. We can see how we estimated compared to the time employees ended up working on project and tasks.
We aren’t a good use case for citizen developers. Due to the privacy of our data (healthcare and personnel), we’re very careful about who develops Quickbase applications.
While we have a large portfolio of projects, the management of them within Quickbase isn't necessarily complex. No matter what size project, we're able to conveniently collect statistical information like sponsor, strategic alignment, dates, etc., as well as project goals, decisions, risks, etc.
Some updates are easier than others. We have many simple applications where updates are quick and easy. Larger, more complex projects with custom code are more challenging to update, especially when the base Quickbase product changes / is updated. Recommend considering a third-party partner to help. We recently updated our project tracking application to use the tabbed function, which allows the user to more easily see organized information on tabs instead of the previous single form that required a lot of scrolling. This saves the user time and allows us as administrators to see grouped information easier.
Quickbase is best suited for tracking information that most staff habitually put in spreadsheets. Lacks logic in Excel (unless take time to add); tracking in Quickbase puts much more flexibility into the process. If you want executive, graphic heavy reports, it’s not as good as other products. Data is there but display lacking.
